Judging by the cuts and the hardware, Thom's looks like an early '64 Standard, very tasty (good choice, Yorke!).

Dweezil's is a Historic something-or-another. Definitely a reissue. As usual, the finish and the horn tips gave it away in a matter of a few seconds to me.

Well, for some reason I really prefer listening to Dweezil playing a Historic (or even a fake) than that guy Thom with an original.

By the way hbom76, do you think you can make an illustrated guide comparing the looks (and other things you consider important) of a 'right' SG and a Historic? I read your posts all the time and I don't seem to understand exactly what you are talking about. unfortunately, I have never had the chance to get near an original 61/65 SG, so it's difficult for me to get your point. I've looked at pictures of originals, but I hear you know a lot of details about them. Cheers!

No, I'm not serious most of the time. "That Thom guy" is a just friendly way to refer to the genius holding that guitar. Nothing to worry about.=P~/

Quite frankly I'm shocked that with all the posts I've made (and pictures posted on a few of them) you don't "get it", but perhaps one free day (HA!) I can take a little time and do a one-time comprehensive side-by-side comparison for posting here to get everyone on the same page. BUT, then I'd expect you all to go complaining and demanding to Gibson in a revolution to get them to reissue 'em properly!!! :-#

That'd be cool. We love intricate visual comparisons. :)

You mean SG-porn. Gotcha'. :)

If I can get my affairs in order I'll see what I can do in the spirit of enlightenment.

"The Radiohead experiment of paying what you want — I disagreed violently with that,” Smith said. “You can't allow other people to put a price on what you do, otherwise you don't consider what you do to have any value at all and that's nonsense.” -Robert Smith

He also calls them idiots.

I just think he's afraid. All the money is in touring now anyways so what does it matter how the music is distributed, especially since Radiohead apparently made a lot of money off of In Rainbows.

Also speaking of Radiohead, a lot of kids these days seem to think they are "wimpy" but Radiohead has some sweet colossal riffs. Paranoid Android and 2+2=5 are great examples of this. It just goes to show how blind people can be, and not because they don't appreciate Radiohead but because they made fun of them just based in impression and not by actually sitting down and listening to an album or two without bias.

To anyone who does not think that Radiohead is Rock n' Roll, just listen to The Bends. It's their second album I believe.

  • 4 years later...

To get back to the OPs question, I read in Guitar World or another reputable mag that it is indeed an original 1964 SG Standard. Apparently he picked it up to have a play, and couldn't put it down, and had to have it!

Good to know that modern bands are still in touch with awesome vintage guitars.

Just don't let Prince anywhere near it, Thom!!!
