freebyrd
Can anyone post the differences in wood identification between AA, AAA Sitka and Adirondack tops ? Pics would be helpful and description(s) for each. How does one differentiate visually Between the two ? I realize this may not be a cut and dry answer ( no pun intended) seriously, help please. Jinder
Generally, Adi has a more reddish hue than the very milky/creamy colour of Sitka. In my experience, Adi has a slightly wider grain pattern with more pronounced colouration of the grain itself. In my guitar collection, Adirondack Spruce is easily noticeable as being located elsewhere! I’ve never been a fan of it. It always sounds a little to “hard” to my ears when I’m playing an Adi guitar. I’ve heard it sound great in the hands of plenty of other players though.
Leonard McCoy
Besides a general Google search which will yield plenty of guitar-related results, Stewmac's stash of soundboard wood (link) is at your disposal. Do note, however, that every guitar company grades wood somewhat differently.
