matt6l6
I have a 2014 R8 with Custombuckers and I would likely never swap them out. I've tried some "boutique" pickups in other guitars and the CB's killed them. Seems like they get no love from some of the pickup snobs. why is that? Black Dog
I haven't tried everything, but I've had a couple different Gibson pickups (490s and 57 classics) and some Seymour Duncans (Seth Lovers, Antiquities and Joe B custom). The best of those (IMO) are the Custombuckers and the SD Joe B. customs. Both underwound, unpotted PAFs. Maybe part of the reason tone seekers don't praise them is because to get them you have to buy a Custom Shop guitar. If Gibson sold them as parts that may be different. IanHenry
The Custombuckers are excellent pickups. You might find this review of 2013 R9's interesting, particularly at 15:12 but I found the whole review very informative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yDtY7EcBmk&t=689s Ian
