Gibson Montana gossip

Recommended Posts

I use Senseodyne, and whatever fruity liquid bath soap my wife buys.

You better show up to where ever Hogfish is without an approved acoustic or you ain't gettin in. Ain't it about playing an not what you got? Damn Guitar Snobs.

Damn guitar snobs?

Good grief man. Ren Ferguson was the luthier for Gibson for 30 years and I sold them for 18 years. This is how we made our living and how we made our house payments.

I know Bob Taylor personally as he was born and raised and educated in Bozeman and a good friend to Gibson Montana but he has his own forum and he didn't pay for my house so why would I promote his guitars on this forum? This forum is paid for by Gibson. He has his own forum. If I wanted to praise his guitars I would go to his forum and do so.

We get together to play Gibson Guitars because we are Gibson supporters not because we don't like other brands. Ren has worked for Fender and Guild and I have worked for Ibanez and Alverez. If I want to support their guitars I would go to their forums. I wouldn't do it on a Gibson forum.

Again this is a Gibson forum paid for by the folks that make Gibson Guitars. They don't need to have trolls pushing other peoples guitars on their forum. Have a little common sense. Have a little respect. I'm sure you are a very nice person and since you don't know us the "Damn Guitar Snobs" crack was inappropriate. I am personally offended by it and it has no place in a Gibson forum.

The employees that work for Gibson are going thru some difficult times as their company is just out of the bankruptcy court. They need a little support they don't need folks pushing their favorite brands on their forum. What are you people thinking? If I was working for the company I would shut this mess down. You sir are a very disrespectful person. Shame on you....

Hogeye - there's a big difference between touting your brand and trashing another. YOU were the one who started the bashing by bringing up your distaste for Maton. Mama used to teach us-"If you can't say something nice-don't say anything at all."

Hogeye, I am sorry to hear there is so much uncertainty at Gibson Acoustic right now.

I love all my Gibsons, whether they were built in Kalamazoo, Nashville, or Bozeman. I suspect the other Gibson owners here share my enthusiasm for the brand. Anyone here whose intention is to trash or troll Gibson should go elsewhere, but a lot of us own other brands in addition to Gibsons, and occasionally, that enthusiasm may carry over into this forum, for better or worse. Most folks here don't mean that enthusiasm to diminish their love of Gibsons.

I'll go quietly into the corner, with no desire to exacerbate an already-awkward turn the thread has taken.

I'm sorry to hear about the uncertainty and wishing for the best for the folks in Bozeman.

For the folks here bashing each other and other brands, well I love all of you and happy your part of may virtual family. I know those angry cantankerous exteriors really are just all fluff on the inside. Peace, Love, Happiness... and maybe a little bit of patchouli smell. Big group hug, no inappropriate grabbing.

..............

Q: Hey, what do you get if you cross an elephant with a rhinoceros?

A: El-if-i-no

Q: What did the 0 say to the 8?

A: Nice belt

It seems that one of Gibson's finest has retired. Van F. has decided to retire and enjoy his golden years. Van is the guy that lead the charge for Gibson when they re-entered the market and he put the wonderful sunburst finishes on Gibson's...

Hopefully he passed on the torch. I think the Gibson bursts are what drew me to the brand.

A few years ago I stepped down from my position with the agreement to train a few young engineers to take over while I back off and step into a mentoring role.

It has been a real pleasure working with the younger generation and I have great expectations for them.

I've never met Van but wish him the best, and thanks for all the burst and may Gibson continue to make one of the best guitars in the world.

I found one image from Homecoming I, in which Van is dutifully encouraging me in spraying an LC guitar that (accidentally) was hanging in the "destroy" rack. Oops...it wasn't supposed to be there.

Van's next to me as I was shooting some Coppertone tan. I could have spent half a day there if they'd a-let me!

I've never had the opportunity to play a Maton and Taylors aren't my cup of tea, but some excellent players swear by them. To deny the quality of the guitars is absurd.

I've played some Gibsons that still thought they were trees. I'm not sure I understand dissing other brands of guitars or the people who play them.

You just don't get it, do you? Yeah, the man has no filter, yeah, no class. But he has enough class to know you don't go to a Gibson forum and constantly shove some other brand down everybody's throat for the glorification of your own ego, or for some other reason. You don't go to someone's house and tell the HOST how nice his neighbor's house is.

This is Gibson's house.

This is pretty much the guts of it. On all counts.

Hello Maton forum.

Just posting here to let you know that a group of Gibson folks got together to play a bit of music. Yes we all played Gibson guitars. We went to a local Hotel where several of the folks were staying and they were kind enough to let us play our music in the pool area.

We were quite amused by one of the trolls here. He remarked that we were "Damn Guitar Snobs" so we decided to use that as our name. This week-end was graduation at MSU so the hotel was full and we gathered a bit of a crowd. They sang along when we played some of the oldies and then we had an inspired moment and one of us "Snobs" started playing the MSU fight song. We all joined in and pretty soon the bar heard the song and it emptied out and we did another chorus with all the drunks.

The "Damn Guitar Snobs" were a rousing success and we are invited to play again tonight. No junk only Gibson Guitars. The hotel agreed to buy us drinks. There will be no Matons and no Taylors. We are Gibson employees and since we pay for this forum we can call the shots. If you don't like it go away. Yes this is meant to offend Blues King and the FZ guy. Stop lying and just go away.

This is a Gibson Forum and anyone that wants to discuss Gibson products is welcome. All other trolls can move on. Don't like it? Goodbye.

Brought to you by "The Damn Guitar Snobs" and the fine employees of Gibson.

Moderator. Please shut this mess down. Thank you

Here is a quote from your first post so you knew you wanted to make waves with this thread.

"Let the burn begin,"

perhaps a spirited discussion was his intent , we have no nuance on key boards which can cause "flying **** syndrome"...

Kevin Kopp just finished his last build for the year and is taking a few days before beginning another batch. So if you want a new quality guitar don't bother with the Maton stuff get a real guitar.

This is irony. Is Kopp sending royalty money to Gibson when we buy his guitars as promoted by you on this very forum paid for by Gibson? Cease and desist, anyone?

Last night I played my J45 Mahogany at a bar and grill in New Jersey. If only I sounded or looked as good as this guitar... man the compliments! And these compliments came as this brown sugar shared the stage with a D41...

Thanks to all in Bozeman who make it possible for idiots like me to own these treasures, and use them to forget the other nonsense in life.

To this topic... I am glad Hogeye pops in. I wish he did more. I wish I also bought a guitar he once offered to me for sale privately. Thats me...I choose to click or not click on a post he starts, just as I choose to click or not click on a BK post. Relax all - we are all big boys and girts. No one forces anyone to open any post here. And you can ignore posters too. Whats the problem? Now let's all argue about wingnuts, libtards, Trumpets, Socialists, Fords, Chevys, Pelosi and Ryan.

Go!

Funny Hogeye, in this interview with Tony Polecastro Bob says he only lived in Bozeman untill he was 4 or 5....he mentions it about a minute in.
