I found a 2008 Gibson Les Paul classic with 3 pickups which he claims is original from factory. The serial number has only 6 digits 080403. Is this legit?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike;

There was a Guitar of the Week in 2007 (wk42) that had a cherry burst and 3 pickups. Not sure of any other runs, but might have been for one of the big box chains.

This ones black but only 6 digit serial number.

And the head stock says Les Paul Classic.

That’s the parts that I question is the serial number.

Yes, the classic models in the 2000’s used 6 digit serial, earliest examples which also had the 1960 on the pickguard had as few as 4 digits (these ones also had Les Paul Model on the head stock instead of classic and were from the early 90’s).

So if all original I would guess it to be a big box store exclusive, most of these types of runs never make it to Gibson’s site.

To be 100% sure email the serial to Gibson customer support, they will be able to tell you what the guitar is or isn’t.

Hope that helps,

Johnny
