Gibson Acoustic Guitar Calendar

Recommended Posts

I had a little down time today and started working on the calendar.

I have a portfolio type holder so I can put pictures I want in it and then buy a inexpensive 12" x 12" calendar for the days

I gave up on finding pictures I like that will fit a 12" x 12" format so I started using some Gibson factory pictures for a background.

I'll download some Montana pictures for the newer guitars. I'll also get a Nashville picture for the L5.

Here's a couple quick looks

It's a small point, but the Gibsons in Tom's handsome group family portrait are not all "war time" Gibsons. The one on the far right is a J-45 from around 1950, and the sunburst LG in the back row is a script logo non-banner guitar, so probably 1946 or 1947.

Picky, picky, picky. It's my nature. I live by details.

I'll wait until the second half (62B) of the CSI team chimes in before I start my editing msp_biggrin.gif

Yeah, I know- most folk who aren't up on the clarifications that Nick provided won't know or care. . . pretty sure the intent of your composition will still hit it's mark. At times, people who are really into the subject will look at the image, and at other times they let the image take their imagination elsewhere. Ask him again and he'll probably talk about the other.

The one below it, John Thomas' LG at 225 Parsons, with the Gals below, their faces slightly out of focus, kind of abstract. . . how many of them are gone now.

And of course, Mr Paul's Nick Lucas at the wood pile. Wonderful. You have to wonder of the man rasping, block planing, filing. . . is that a mallet, lower left? Could this have been the person who fit on the neck of the Nick?

One Gal remains. She'll soon turn 97. I've arranged for a video shoot with her in the old factory this spring.

Here is an interesting historical grouping. Sort of the alpha to omega of the power Js. 35 RSRG, 36 RSSD, 35 Jumbo, 36 AJ, 36 J-35 (Trojan), and 43 SJ RW.

Because of the comparative drop off in power of wartime banner years, these were the only models that ever got the attention of the rural bubble the way the early Martin dreads did.K55XTKL.jpg

Tom - I'm guessing the one in front is the '43SJ RW... what does the 'RW' indicate? Rgds - billroy

We have lots of stuff. Give me a bit more direction.

One thing we have is individual hi res portraits of all of our instruments -- front and back -- in front of a green screen. All of our instruments are old. These are forensic shots of great interest for grain detail, etc. but not too artistically interesting. However because of the screen, we can photoshop them into artistic places.

Here is an examble -- 1936 Jumbo35 Trojan.

We also do historical shots. EG All our Js from 1935 to 1965.

30s small Gibsons

All 30s Gibsons

War Time

Also composed stuff -- eg 1943

Is any of this of interest?

Best,

-Tom

If Gibson had your guitars it'd be a museum; they must envy you!

On another topic, Tom - perhaps it's naive of me to ask but I see no 12-strings.Is there a reason you don't have any or do you just not feature any in your gorgeous set-ups?Simply curious. Thanks for sharing images of your guitars so that the rest of us get to see real history, by the way.

Lars' banner J-45 is one of the most stunningly clean examples I've ever seen. I think that one came from Willi Henkes (Antique Acoustics).

I bought it online from a Guitar Center in Florida. Willi Henkes in Germany made some repairs and set it up for me. It's my pride and joy. A wonderful guitar!

Infact, it has just the perfect amount of wear. It looks like a vintage guitar and I'm not afraid to use it.

We don't use them much, but we have a couple. No Gibsons though -- one Aria I bought for my new bride in 1969 and a 1968 Martin D -12-20

Best,

-Tom
