I have a 2008 SG Special Faded which still has the stock 490t/490r pickups. They are ok but I'd like to upgrade them. What are the best Gibson pickups for a SG? Ideally I just want classic SG tones out of the guitar, think Angus, Iommi etc. Being able to do some heavier music well like Metallica would be good, the stock pickups sound a bit too open for that.

What amp are you using?
That's just as important imo as the pickups.
Are you using any pedals!

I don’t know if anything is a real “upgrade” but a 57 and 57+ would not be a mistake.
