GA-5 Les Paul Jr. Amp - Discontinued?

Even though I don't need another GA-5, I was looking at the MF site this evening, and they have none. In fact, they have a notice that "This item has been discontinued." Has Gibson quit making GA-5 amps, or is it MF that has just stopped carrying them? Anyone know?

It could be either one. MF is part of GC and M123 and GC and M123 are still showing inventory, and at the magical price of $699. Maybe Gibson gave MF an exclusive break on cost to blow their overstock out, and to get the amp out there to the masses to spread the word. I bought mine at Sweetwater a month before this sale for $399 and I am still floored with my purchase. I can't recommend this amp enough, and at any price.

I couldn't order one at Musician's Friend but I was able to place an order at Amazon this morning, that is actually filled by MF. Hopefully the order will go through ok.

The reviews sure sound great; I can't wait to hear it.

I'm also floored by how good this amp is. At the price we're seeing now, I'm not surprised some of these places are selling out of them. I just hope Gibson keeps making them.

Thanks for the Info. I just ordered one from Amazon as well.......I'll be hoping that it goes through for this sweet low price. What an amazing deal ($300) !!! From what I gathered from my research the last couple months the circuits for the GA-5 are being gone over and redesigned. It seems that Gibson will now be putting these out soon so dealers want to get rid of old stock. Me being who I am, I would think that the old style will be in more demand now because of this. I sold my 1990's GA-5 5 years ago and miss it now that I'm doing more recording, it sure will be nice to have it back in the stable. Yahoo.

Now this is confusing. I'm sitting here with 2 browser windows open.

One is on a page at Musician's Friend showing Gibson's GA-5 amp with a $299.00 price, and a message

saying this item is back ordered until 5/1/2008.

Yet if I try to copy and paste the link. it goes to a page that looks exactly the same with a message

that says it has been discontinued.

I hope that I stumbled upon something that the public is not suposed to see.

I would love for this amp to be offered again on that date.

Hopefully still at the $299.00 price.

Guess we'll just have to wait until May 1st.to find out.

Someone here suggested that Amazon had a few left. I thought about that. There a couple of guys on here that has done just that.

I wanted to wait and see if any of you actually got yours before I give Amazon all my credit card info.

I just don't want them to charge me for it, then say sorry but that amp is no longer offered, and

we can't give you a refund, but we can give you a credit.

I'll wait and see.

Sure would like to get one at that price though.

I heard that Gibson has discontinued the amp and that Musicians Friend bought out all of their remaining inventory. I'd keep checking the MF website, because if that's true, they'll put them back up for sale when they get them. Also, some of these will get returned, and they'll probably move them out as blems.

I ordered one right before they sold out of them, and boy I'm glad I did. This thing has a great vintage sound to it. Works very well with the p-90's in my Casino. Everyone loves the tone, and are blown away at how loud it is. This is a kickin little amp!

Hey guys, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I thought I had a deal with MF through Amazon because I didn't hear otherwise for days. Then I called MF on Sunday night and they tell me the order was canceled, even though they hadn't told me earlier, because they don't have any more. Bummer.

Being the compulsive musician shopper that I am, I got one off of Ebay the next day, from a guy who delivered it to me himself the following day, and I'm not kidding. For less money than the MF special even.

I am in love with this amp. It takes me places I have never gone before. I had a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that I'm sure was a great amp, but I never got this kind of sound out of it. It is also an awesome amp with harmonica.

I'm sure I'll get another one of these before long.

I wanted to add that although I've had a strat for a few years now, I've played more acoustic by far in my 5 years of serious guitar-playing history. I started playing kind of late in life, but I guess that was right on time for me.

The last few days are really the most I've ever played electric. It's fun!

Whole new world sort of, but both types of guitars feed each other's styles too. It sure is fun making music isn't it.

yes they are discontinued via gibson customer service.

"155," did you receive personal communications from Gibson Customer Service regarding this, or do you know of a web address where Gibson states that these little amps have been discontinued? The whole reason I started this thread was to try and determine whether the rumor of discontinuance was true, or not.

Okay, I'm going to answer my own post. I now have personal communication from Gibson Service that the wonderful little GA-5 amp has been discontinued. If you want one, and see one for sale, you'd best grab it now.

I've been watching MF for a few days figuring some people may return one and I was rewarded today. I picked up a blem for $260. I just checked the order status and it said "packing shipment". Woo Hoo!!!

Dude, you are lucky! I know a bunch of folks are crying that they missed out on this one. I'm sure glad I have mine.

Unfortunately the catalogue does not reflect what they actually have in their inventory. They sold out of these awhile ago. The blem listed on their website came and went. GibsonJunkie lucked out. Maybe MF will get some more returns in soon?

No worries. Kind of bummed myself that I missed out on them. Thought I could pick one up at a GC, get a price match and use the 10% off coupon they mailed out to everyone. My "local" GC didn't have any in stock. MF sold out before I could get my order in. Tried to be a little too clever and missed out. Have been hitting MF's site literally every morning hoping a "blem" would become available. Missed out on that too. Maybe it's just not meant to be.
