coachgeorge
Hello, I need some help with this. The headstock on top says Gibson Under that between the tuners for the 2 and 4 strings it says Custom Shop. Between the Custom and Shop it says in script Les Paul. At the top of the neck , after the nut, a golden metal plate says in script Les Paul. The serial number is 02005514. On the back of the headstock, between the tuners, under the serial number is says MADE IN USA. Is this guitar authentic? What is the model LP? Is it worth investing some money into? What year was it made? I would add pictures if I know how. Thanks in advance. George
DoubleSixx
George, Sounds like you have Les Paul. Seems legit from the info you posted. As far as the serial number Gison explains in the following link : http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/ I could be wrong but from the serial number I think your Les Paul was : Built 2002 On Friday And was the 514 guitar that day. Try the link so you see a detailed explanation. Good luck. al

In '02 the number should be ink stamped, not impressed in the wood and there will be no "made in the USA" designation on a 2002 Custom Shop guitar. It's either a standard Gibson with and added on Custom Shop logo or a Chinese fake. The Chinese fakes are rampant on ebay and have been pooping up for sale by regular people who have been taken. Beware.
MikeRom
I was thinking the same thing. It's says both custom shop and made in USA? That doesn't add up ... You can always run the serial number by Gibson customer support.
flyingarmadillo
Built 2002 On Friday And was the 514 guitar that day. Nope, July 19, 2005 production number 214. The format is YdddY### So it's year 05 (2005) day 200, (July 19th) and electric serial numbers start no lower than 300 so it's production number 214 at the most. But that's not a custom shop number which should start with CS. A Custom Shop LP with that kind of serial# doesn't make sense. Good luck.
