D minor and open strings E A G D

Recommended Posts

I figured this out by accident so I thought I'd share it.

For Guitar and Bass, you can use open E A D G strings with the notes of a D minor scale and it works.

Alternate the scale with open string notes and gain some room to move.

If you have any questions on the theory, feel free to send me.

But try something like this:

play D harmonic minor above the 12th fret

play D natural minor below 12th fret

use a lot of open string notes mixed in, single notes or play together with scale notes.

you can get some really dark sounds, I have not heard before.

On bass, try alternating open strings with root, minor 3rd, 5th and 7th in Dm.

D F A C

and walk up and down the strings with passing tones.

maybe it will lead to something?

I was messing around and came up with a new bass line, I'll record it and add guitar and post it soon.

In the video, I played the guitar - fingerpicking it like a bass - alternating open with a fretted note or notes connected with slides, hammers and pulls.

I've been playing 10years and never got anything like that before...
