Hey, would like to help my friend ID his guitar.
Can't get anything in projectdater.org maybe you can
help me help my friend ID his guit.
# is 971146 and it is a Les Paul Gibson.

Yeah some pictures of the guitar. Cause it was made before 1977 it won't come up the project dater web site.

Not necessarily.
It could be an R9 or a Les Paul Classic.

No. Then the serial number would be 02005xxx.
That seems to be the only one they use lately.

GibsonAlmighty, go to Gibson.com and search for "serial numbers."
Help your friend ID his guitar? He bought it - shouldn't he know what it is?
