The touch, or two-handed tapping technique of playing guitar has been around since the days of Jimmy Webster in the 1950s. Of course, Eddie Van Halen took took the whole tapping concept to another dimension in the late 1970s, and inspired an entire generation of new rockers to come up with their own tapping styles and techniques.

This unique technique, however, is not limited to just rock and roll. Jazz artists like Stanley Jordan, and countless others, have incorporated it into their own styles, opening up an entirely new spectrum of sound, while demonstrating the endless possibilities of this beautiful form of expression.

Today's lesson from the folks at GuitarTricks.com features instructor Hanspeter Kruesi, who is a master at the touch, or two-handed tapping technique. His introductory lesson will start you on the way to becoming skilled in this very distinct style of playing. As Kruesi demonstrates, you don't have to be Eddie Van Halen to start learning this technique. His simple exercises will have you tapping away in no time.
