Rewddawg1
hey rew what ups rocker' date=' hey you didn't like that king crimson or what ? tom[/quote'] Hey Bro what's up? I've been gone for a few days. I'm not sure what you are referring to as King Crimson. The band or your guitar. Like I've said before, I love the looks of LP's and they sound incredible. I believe the LP you have has the Burstbucker pups and sound excellent. I like the looks of fadeds. How much Nitro finish can you feel on your guitar, esp. the body. The big music store close to where I live does not have any fadeds in stock so I have no way to reference them. Keep on Rockin!!! Rewd. tom brown
Rew welcome back my brother, this was 1972 king crimson band which was my favorite back in the day....this is actually a shorted version... jazz rock fusion, take a pick.... but its seems still "relevent" if i dare use that word, today, to my ears..... you know i am not sure about the nitro, i can feel it , the neck is not sticky feels thinner then on the body.... and the guitar really plays nice unplugged because of the nitro and semi hollow design....if i had my way i'd do this to it... if you watch it all, its a beautiful guitar..the end shows the back They stopped making them with the bb pros, now i think they have the 490's.....i will post the specs later.... tom

Rewddawg1
Tom, Sorry I missed your first post of King Crimson. They really rocked in their day. I used to also listen to MC5, Blue Cheer etc. There was alot more good hard rock in the 60's & 70's than alot of people realize. I think more people are familiar with the April Wine cover of that song than King Crimson just because of the airplay & shear # of rockers out there. Also if you have the 490R/498T pups they also sound amazing in a LP. Peace Bro. tom brown
rew what i do is i have a older link to harmony central which owners post reviews, and next to the guitar were links to musicians friend so you could buy one...thing is that you can't get to those by any type of seach on that website.... Thanks for the link, i didnt; realize they had the enamel wire and maple spacers on the pickups.... also i notice that my pickup selector does NOT match the way they list the selections...my lower position is bridge and neck, then come the bridge alone, bridge middle, middle, neck middle, neck.... does yours match mine? thanks for the videos, that some real good rock and roll.......sent you a email, later bro tom
Rewddawg1
Here's some newer pics. I can't clean up the pickup covers the way I want to. Suggestions have always involved a solvent that would ruin the finish if an accident happened. Suggestions are welcome. I may need new covers?
tom brown
looks nice rew, is the headstock gold or is that a reflection ? On the pickup covers, i am not sure if they can be saved, mine are actually like new and was going to ask you if there is a way to keep them in good condition... I do know the covers are held in with usually just one or two spots of solder, there is a you tube on how to install covers i looked at once... That amp must be a beast rock star, is this the same amp in this review link? http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Marshall/JCM-2000+TSL+100/10/1 keep rockin bro.......tom
Rewddawg1
Thanks Tom. The headstock is just showing a reflection. I'm not much of a photographer. I think your right about the pup covers. I'll just replace them next time I change the strings. MF sells them for about $23 ea. Actually Sweetwater has them for $16.29 ea. I like Sweetwater better anyway. I love my Marshall. It is the 60W version of the amp in your review link. BTW when I add the B-52 2x12 cab to the combo amp it sounds like a true half stack. Look at my sig. There is not a lot of difference in volume between 60W & 100W. There are a few more features on the 100W combo but I couldn't justify the price diff. when I bought it. Here's links to specs and reviews. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-JCM2000-TSL602-Combo-Amp?sku=483197 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Marshall/JCM-2000+TSL+602/10/1 Peace Bro and Keep On Rockin!!!! Rewddawg1
Hey Tom What's up shredder? I know this is the SG-3 post but have you seen pics of my Epi Prophecy and my Gibson New Century Flying V? Two great axes. The Prophecy has Grover tuners, 24 frets, ebony FB and graphite nut. It plays awesome for an Epi. My V also has Grover tuners, 22 frets, and ebony FB. (1 of 400). Here's a looksee and I hope you like. Talk to you later. Rewd. P.S. I will delete this post after you get done looking. I'm not trying to hijack your thread. Btw Keep On Rockin Bro!!! tom brown
no don't delete it this is everyones thread here.. yeah i like that epi, that has the dirty fingers pickups, i think they used them in "the paul""....that guitar had a walnut body and neck.....if you ever see one try it.......I always wondered why they would not put the gibson pickups in the epi....seems just silly, the finish on the one i played was like it was dipped in glass, real smooth..buttery, if i didn;t have the sg 3 in my scope i would have bought that guitar.. what do they call that flying v, i never seen one like that is it custom? thats a shred machine you can do some heavy lifting with that baby and that amp, lol, that 500t pickup would tear my face off rocker... I emailed a customer service rep to try again to find out how many cherry 2007 sg 3's were made...see if he responds, there are two black ones on ebay... new problem, i been playing the sg 3 since i got it and yesterday played the studio with the B.B. pro's and i just didn't hear what i used to hear from it...the pickups sounded brittle compared to the "57'S', and that 57 plus is a real nice pickup.... I play the bridge quite a bit, i now know why quite a few blues players use the es335 because they have the 57 pickups....but thoses run like 2400, pretty big chunk of dough i think.....besides, when you play the neck and bride together on the sg 3 its one step to heaven.....and i am using this shitty spider 4 75 watt, has alot of effects but to much simulated tube sag. if you get my drift..... maybe i'll sell the studio and get a better amp , tough in this condo though..... keep rockin the house...tom
Rewddawg1
Thanks Tom, I really like that Epi Prophecy SG GX. Those DF pups really smoke. They have a little more bottom end than the 500T pups and they are a little hotter. It also has coil split and when split in the bridge pos. it sounds alot like Blackmore's Strat when he played with Rainbow. My V is a guitar of the week model. Made in 2007 week 31. Here are the specs http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Divisions/Gibson%20USA/Guitar%20of%20the%20Week/Flying_V_New_Century/. I really like the sound of that guitar also. It also is a great guitar for hard rock and metal and has a cool clean sound. That's the first V I have ever owned and I love the weight and upper fret access. Before you sell your LP. I would check out a Night Train, Tiny Terror or Blackstar. They are all great little tube amps that come in combo's and won't break the bank. You could probably trade your Spyder in and knock a nice chunk off the price. Later on when you have a little more cash you could get a Vox Tonelab ST for $200 and get all the effects you probably need and you don't lose your tube tone while using it. Check one out they run off of a tube W/ Valvetronics technology. Every person I have talked to and owns one really loves them. As a matter of fact some guys run it thru their SS amps and get a tube tone with it. Could be an aletrnative to buying a tube amp at this time if cash flo is a prob. Let me know what you think. My only concern is you may like the tone of your LP later on and you can always swap pups in her if the tone isn't cutting it for now. New LP's are only going to go up in price later on in life. Well gotta go Bro. Keep On Rockin In The Free World!!! Rewd.
tom brown
whats up my dawg yeah i know a guy the has that tonelab with a old ss amp and he gets some real nice tones, i used to use a old stage amp with a ds 1 and a wah wah and the sounds were good, but that pedal has a combo of fuzz and distortion, the new ones ds 2 , i hear are quite good...more distortion...without losing the base tones..... yes epiphone was bought by gibson in like 1959 or so, you already may know, but then they used all epi parts until about 1962, after that they used all GIBSON parts in the epiphone casinos and other epi's. now, i have seen these casinos go for as low as 1200 on ebay or craigs list in new york city.....its the same guitar as the 1963 es335, lol, everything i believe is the same but have to double check memory in all, its 6 am here.....so point is I think the vintage casinos are extremly under-valued, even the lennons series and the 1965 reissues are bringing more at times....and i bet those guitars get down my dawg... i am going to check out some tube amps this weekend. yeah i played the lp again and it sounded better, my ears are getting tuned t the 57's and they have to re adjust tem selves.....later rock starr
Rewddawg1
What's up brothers and sisters? I played my first gig last night in 2 1/2 years and it felt great. I played rythmn guitar with some local musicians. We played 70's & 80's hard rock and metal, some thrash metal and they tought me some blues. It was a real blast and will be a weekly thing. BTW I am also taking lessons now from one of the best guitarists in town. Plan to go beyond being just a rythmn guitarist. May even do a little recording if we can get a steady singer. Peace and Keep On Rockin!!!! Rewd.
tom brown
dawg hey congrats on your successful gig, i am proud of ya...i knew you were a closet rock star... I took lessons from a jazz teacher once, and he had said to me if you think a lead guitarist is great, look closely at the rhythm guitarist. because he is the one doing alot of the work to make the lead sound great.... i love playing rythym, i am not that great at leads though.. playing lead is great don't get me wrong, but so is playing rhythm....rock on rock starr.... tom
Rewddawg1
Thanks Tom you are a real trooper. I'm not a rockstar but I do have fun playing guitar with musicians around town. I have a thread on another blog site that specializes in vintage Gibson guitars. Let's see if they can shed some light on our SG-3 guitars. Let me know how your venture to find a nice small tube amp goes. It would be a great topic in the Lounge section of this forum if you have alot of questions about various amps out there. There are members of this Forum that own or know about just about everything out there. Peace Bro, and "Don't Bother Knockin Cause the House is a Rockin" SRV Rewd. tom brown
dawg whats up? have been meaning to ask, Do you have strap lock system for the sg 3 ?and if so , which one do you use? Tried to put a strap on the sg 3 yesterday and it didn;t feel to safe...And that sg is not light compared to other sg's but that why it holds a note till next tuesday my brother.... still working on some recordings, when i get one on a mp3 i will post, recorded 5 using wav file and didn't realize the limitationa of that format..... keep in touch and keep rockin the house.....tom
Rewddawg1
Yeah we have an amateur recording engineer. Still working out the kinks. If we ever get something recorded that's worthy of posting. I'll try to post on this thread. BTW I am not currently using strap locks but the general consensus on the subject is Schaller is probably the best. Using existing size screws in the same holes is recommended. Sometimes you have to go buy s/s screws and grind on them to get them to work. There are dozens of posts on the subject just look them up in the search engine. Peace Man! & remember" Rock n Roll Ain't Noise Pollution"!!!! Rewd. tom brown
whats up dawg saw your question on ask henry and posted the same, you would think they would have sales records of how many they sold to deal or something because in limited runs of guitars like ours the value is affected big time by the number produced.... maybe they were not a big hit then, sometimes people aren't ready for new products... put new strings on the sg 3 for the first time, some nickle steel ghs boomers( 10"s of course.lol) and the sound difference is amazing...knew the old ones were flat but wanted to cool off the brightness, strings really affect tone....next set will be some pure nickel Flatwound........real vintage sound you have to rock the house at least once a day, or your not living....... quote from tom brown.lol
Spike~
I think it looks a bit tacky with humbuckers but simply gorgeous with single coils, i've always wanted one of these.
Rewddawg1
I think it looks a bit tacky with humbuckers but simply gorgeous with single coils' date=' i've always wanted one of these. [img']http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj91/Mattbedrock/SG-3.jpg[/img] Nice guitar wasn't that a 2007 GOW SG? How do those single coil blades sound compared to a Fender? The 3 humbuckers may look tacky to you and your opinion is welcome. We that own and play them love the sound and tone variations. I personally like the looks of them and I like the looks of 3 humbuckers on a Les Paul. Here's a guy with the same type of guitar you have claiming you get humbucker tones with his guitar. I think he is quoting the wrong SG-3. lol http://cgi.ebay.com/gibson-sg-3-guitar-week-21-sg3-3-single-coil-ash-/120595334556?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Guitar&hash=item1c140ac59c :- Rewd
Spike~
Yes, you're right. It was actaully an GOTW SG Standard, but the knob layout is just like an SG-3. I should clarify on what I mean't by 'tacky'. Part of that is my own bias twords the 'batwing' style pickguards. I always had a preference for the full pickguard. The GOTW guitar has a custom-cut pickguard which makes it look more like a carefully designed instrument as opposed to just putting another humbucker in the middle. I actaully don't mind the way SG-3's with the full pickguard and without pickup rings look, I believe there was one posted earlier in the thread. I've thought a number about the plausiblity of having a custom pickguard made for my SG Special that copies the GOTW version, and installing 3 blades into it.
Rewddawg1
Yeah the pickguards on SG's have been discussed several times in this forum. I think the people that prefer the vintage look like the small pickguard more. I personally like either one. The chicken head 6 way switch I think is really special. Why (dare I say it) Fender uses a 5 way slider on alot of their guitars is beyond me. Then look at the Gibson custom SG it costs a pretty penny and uses a 3 way switch for 3 pickups. Can't figure that one out either. The great thing is that we all have our own SG's and love playing them! Rewd.
tom brown
The sg is a great guitar dawg, i was listening to ""the who'" i think it was won't get fooled again and i can hear tone of that sg very clear, the 490's have their own voice, but also can be brittle when not used the correct way... I always try to listen only to the guitar when i am studying music, takes some work though did you see the 50's tribute with the p90 's and orange drops caps? Man i am gettin a itch i can't scratch, i am gonna have to check out that axe...1300 msrp is a good deal.... hey i didn't realize the sg 3 single coil had a chicken head switch, that guitar must have some killer single coil sounds, i had a g&l s500 premium that combined bridge and middle and it softens the single coil, but gives it more depth and strength....Thats a big weakness with fenders, the split positions are very weak... kepp rockin till i come knockin dawg....tom
