I've owned a 1961 GA-8 Discoverer, and a mid-60's Mercury II piggyback. I wasn't crazy about either one. Sorry.

I love the GA-5. Nice growl for such a little amp.

There's a couple of us here on the forum who use the GA-5. Great little amp. In fact, lately it's my No.1 amp because I'm using it specifically in the bedroom. Don't let me be misunderstood either. This little amp has excellent tone and can be pretty loud too for just 5-Watts.

You've got some serious tone and power happening using the Super Goldtone GA-60 RV. Very cool.

I just got my first Gibson amp... a 1967 GA-5T and it was love at first note...... I still need to get the 2 prong cord swapped out and likely have the filter caps changed, but other than one small anoying buzz on certain notes, it sounds amazing at low to medium levels. Mine came with an upgrade Jenson speaker installed and the original in a box. Sweet tremolo too! It has the same tubes as a Kalamazoo Model 2 from what I hear.. 2 12AX7's (preamp and trem), 1 6x4 rectifier and 1 6BQ5 power tube. All point to point wired. [thumbup]

Yes, the design is ugly as can be, but who cares once you hear that beautiful tube tone.

My 1967 GA75 Recording amp has a few mods...no hiss..modified tone circuits add great bite...retains strong bass. I replaced the 2X10s with JBLs. I have the originals in two compressed cabs. I have had this since 1967 NAMM convention in Chicago. I used it there in Demos for guitars..and got it very cheap after the show. No one then was interested in Gibson amps. Got lucky..it is a great hand built amp.

I don't think anyone wanted to carry it down from the 15th floor..:)

Attached Image: Gibson Super Goldtone with custom cabinet & footswitch.jpgNot much experience with different Gibson Amp models. I have the GA20RVT Minuteman and the GA30RVH Super Goldtone. I like both a lot for different reasons of course.

When recording the Minuteman is hard to beat. Put it in a room by itself and put the controls to 10, sweet tone & breakup. Also, it has a different Reverb circuit in that you can turn the normal circuit to 0 and still have reverb coming from the amp, kinda a pre-fader feed type of thing.

I like the controls and channel switching abilities of the Super Goldtone. Great modern amp! The ability to turn both channels on at once is awesome. If you have the foot switch, it is like having a five channel amp.
