GuitarTricks.comYou may not have ever heard the term pedal notes before, but we're sure you've heard them used in countless solos, and in many different styles of music.

 

Pedal notes are notes that you keep going back to. They are also refered to as pivot or anchor notes, and are picked alternately starting with a downstroke—or pickup—note, followed by upbeat notes that are usually the arpeggios. It is a highly effective and unique style of soloing, and can add a new dimension to any style of playing.

 

Today's lesson is taught by Ben Lindholm of GuitarTricks.com. He demonstrates this unique technique over a simple metal progression, but the exercise can be performed over any style of music. Perfecting this technique `will certainly improve your overall playing.
