Guest Gibson Lifestyle
Lesson of the Day: Killer Guitar Practice Exercises 05.29.2008 The only way to get faster on the electric guitar is to practice, practice, practice. And when you're done, practice some more. After all, you don't think people like Slash, Mike Einziger, or John Petrucci developed their blazing speed by practicing only one hour per day, do you? Not a chance. These guys—and countless others—spent hours upon hours honing their craft, and many of them used simple exercises like the ones in today's lesson. Instructor Benoit Nadeau is a legend at GuitarTricks.com, and he's one of the most successful guitar teachers on the internet. As he states himself, "Most of what I learned came from books and hours of practice," and he trys to pass along his teaching philosophy and overall guitar knowledge in every lesson. In today's lesson, Nadeau shows us how to take a simple lick and break it up and turn it into several killer, challenging practice exercises. You can then take any of these practice exercises and play them until your hand falls off, or at least until your hand and fingers get used to the positioning and speed. Either way, these are excellent work outs to help you improve your playing, and it'd be totally worth your time to incorporate them into your practice regimen.
