Does anybody know how much a Wildkat or Alleykat weighs?

I've never seen either an Alleykat or Wildkat in a music store.

My partner Leilani (see <--- picture) likes her Parker PM10 and my Casino for a couple of reasons, one of which is the light weight.

She likes the Casino because it is acoustic and is loud enough to practice unplugged. But since she is petite, the Casino looks pretty big in her hands.

So I was wondering:

1) How much the ___Kat guitars weigh?

2) Are they acoustic or is there a center block in the middle like the Dot?

3) Is the neck similar to the Casino?

The information is not posted on the Epiphone site, and an e-mail sent to them about a month ago is either unanswered or lost in cyberspace.

So I'm hoping there are ___kat owners on this forum who can answer these questions.

Ibanez makes a smaller, hollow, archtop but neither Leilani nor I like the neck on the guitar (we're spoiled with the Casino, Gibson ES-330, and Parker PM-10).

Thanks,

My Flamekat is just about 8 lbs. It's not really a traditional hollow body, it's what I would call a chambered body, more like a routed out solid body. Here's what it looks like before the top is attached:

Hope that helps.

Sooner or later I'll figure out some of the quirks of Firefox and this site -- 2nd attempt at this post...

See if you can find a Gibson Blueshawk for Leilani. While I am only "fond" of mine, its a guitar that I always wanted to like a lot. Smaller than an LP and fully hollowbody, twin Blues-90 pickups, Varitone, setneck. Should be able to find one in the $450-$650 range.

Edit: Best guess is about 6 lbs and even though it is a standard Gibson string length, the smaller body means its almost 2" shorter than my Gibson SG (and lighter!).

I had a couple of Blueshawks, love the sound, body is just too small for me.

I saw this young lady perform in San Diego, don't remember her name but she was from England, and she played a cherry Blueshawk.

She had a few hits across the pond, a #1 if I remember, she did a cover of Canned Heat's On the Road Again.

I believe that's Katie Melua. By "I believe' date='" I mean "I looked her up on Wikipedia using by looking at people who had covered Canned Heat's [i']On The Road Again[/i]."

Exactly!!! That's what Mrs. Mac told me (she wasn't home when I originally posted).

BTW' date=' how does the neck compare with a Casino/ES330/ES335?

Similar, fatter, wider?

Notes[/quote']

Never played a Casino, but the Blueshawk neck feels like the same old Gibson half-a-ballbat to me! Seriously, though, my medium sized hands fit pretty well, though hard to stretch into some of the sustained and flatted 5th chords I find in this new (to me) songbook my Mother wants me to learn.

This shot should give better idea about size, shape, etc.

So how does the neck compare to a Dot? (essentially the same). I think the smaller size would fit her just fine (see picture on the left)

She has smaller hands than I do.

Unfortunately the model has been discontinued so there is no place we can try one out before buying a used one on-line.

I hate to order one without having something to at least compare the neck to.

Also, I wonder why Gibson discontinued it ??????

I read about the Varitone on-line and it seems like a pretty cool deal to me.

And I repeat from an earlier post ... after playing saxophone/flute/windsynth/bass/keyboards/drums for many years ... and sax being my primary instrument ... I'm quickly realizing that guitarists have way more GAS than saxophonists ;-) --- AND ---after many years of playing 'at' guitar, I am seriously studying the guitar --- I'm getting a case of GAS that is more than my finances allow.
