CodeMonk
I'm sure we are all going to miss all the great info that is on the old forum. So here is what I propose: Since I am a programmer (currently unemployed :( ), I could write an application that would all for searching of the posts. Or a script that would allow for searching the old posts from some web page. I don't have a web page myself at the moment though. But there are plenty of free ones around that could be used. Of course I'm sure this might also be dependent on GibsonEpiphone allowing it (The posts are technically their property). As for the application, it would be its own program, written in Delphi. For the web page based script it would probably be done in perl. I know I should learn PHP, but never got around to it. So, any thoughts? It would take me a few weeks to complete it since I do have a life outside computers (Mainly guitar ). Oh yeah, and it would also require getting the data files of the posts. Sure, I could just open up EVERY post and copy/paste. But that would be a major pain and I lack time to do that.
pohatu771
Will the old forum even exist in a few weeks?
CodeMonk
I don't know. It is going away soon. But there is so much great information on there I would hate to lose it all. But once I have the data files (posts), It won't matter much as far as making something that would be useful.
Nickblues1
I would suggest if any one finds great info on the old forum to quickly copy it over here so t is not completely lost.
Biff
I saw the shut down coming last year and I already have 92373 posts stored in a MySQL database (and counting, going backwards in time now at 2003-08-13) and a simple PHP interface for myself for access and search functions... Too bad the only way to get all of the posts effectively was to get them one at a time, and that approach loses the information (all but the subject) which tells which thread each post belongs. I'll let you know if I come up with a good way of sharing the posts, unless Epiphone doesn't like the idea. Here's a copy&paste of the text interface.... __________________________________________________ Search posts Search by user Title Date Poster Re: New Week, new Guitar day... 2008-01-27 18:13:03 EpiJunkie Just a final post 2008-01-27 18:07:05 WCFields Re: Epiphone Les Paul Classic Quilt Top jack keeps coming out 2008-01-27 13:06:07 Code_Monk Re: Epiphone Les Paul Classic Quilt Top jack keeps coming out 2008-01-26 17:04:24 gene77 Re: HEADS UP - the posts on this forum will dissapear in a couple of weeks - use the new forum 2008-01-26 16:26:26 dubstar Epiphone Les Paul Classic Quilt Top jack keeps coming out 2008-01-26 15:12:29 lespaul107 Need Help Identifying an Epiphone by Gibson 2008-01-26 13:23:16 jco Re: Firebird banjo tuners 2008-01-26 10:49:15 DikSatchel Re: cracks in my finish 2008-01-25 19:10:23 TD2007 Re: Caps 2008-01-25 04:56:26 smokestack Re: Caps 2008-01-25 04:43:02 AS90 Re: Epi Les Paul Gold Top? 2008-01-25 03:34:27 cyberpunk409 Re: Caps 2008-01-25 00:01:05 TwangOne Re: Acoustic Tapping 2008-01-24 23:27:03 Edster Re: gibson epiphone 98 limited edition commemorative model 2008-01-24 18:23:02 captmidnight gibson epiphone 98 limited edition commemorative model 2008-01-24 18:07:52 lotus voltaire Re: cracks in my finish 2008-01-24 18:06:17 flyingfrets Re: cracks in my finish 2008-01-24 13:26:51 olman222 Re: luthiers... 2008-01-24 13:11:47 captmidnight Re: HEADS UP - the posts on this forum will disappear in a couple of weeks - use the new forum 2008-01-24 08:32:25 RotcanX Top | Next 20 >
CodeMonk
I'm sure there is a data file (or files) of all the old posts. Anyone from Gibson reading this? Is it possible for me to obtain the data files of all the old posts?
Biff
I think they used MS SQL Server as the forum database, so a) yes it's possible to get the old forum data. no, it's very unlikely they'll ever give anyone any of the database files c) good luck with Delphi and perl...
