Will Dandy
Hi guys, I'm looking to put some new tuning pegs on my g-400 and am wondering what size the holes are? I bought some Grover rotomatics assuming they would fit, but the 25/64 seems almost double the width! If anyone knows the actual size of these pegholes I would appreciate it. Recommendations are also accepted!
jcwillow777
I put Grover Vintage Green Keystones in my G-400 and they popped right in. I think it had a 10mm hole. I did the same to my Dot and '57 Junior RI. They all just dropped right in. I just had to drill some new holes in the back of the headstock for the screws. Will Dandy
Thats weird. Thats the same size as the rotomatics I have, but that bottom area where the shaft widens is much too big for the holes on my G-400. The pegs that are in mine now (Ping Deluxe) are the smaller size for the entire shaft. Is there something I'm missing? Or you could you paste a link to the Vintage Green in case I've found the wrong item?
jcwillow777
Hugh, those specs look the same as what is posted at stewmac.com which is where I got 3 sets of Grovers at. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/1/Grover_Deluxe_Keystones/Details.html#details
Will Dandy
Thats actually where I got the pic from. Mine are like this: but the holes on the guitar wouldn't fit it unless maybe I pounded it in with a hammer or something, but I dont think that would even work if I felt crazy enough to try it! jcwillow777
I think the Kluson style tuners are 8mm and would fit. You might want to sent those back. GFS makes tuners that will fit in 8mm holes. The shafts on the tuners you have are just a little under 10mm. The only other option I can think of would be to ream the holes out a little. You can get a hand held tapered reamer at Home Depot, that way you can just take a little out at a time. I wouldn't use a drill.
