New Wildkat owner

I'm a Fender Stratocaster player all my live and have owned several other guitars.

Fenders, Squiers, Gibsons, Ibanez's and Epiphones.

A sunburst and a black Sheraton and a sunburst and a black Les Paul Standard.

But this Wildkat is something special, it's the first guitar with P-90 pickups and a Bigsby tremolo

and i like it,like it a lot.

It came with Grover tuning keys and a Bigsby licenced tremolo, with the Bigsby name on it instead

of the Epiphone name.

Is this some special model ? i think it's from 2004.

Welcome lostindesert, to our entertaining circus of a sometimes madhouse!!!

Not personally owning a Wildcat yet,(I know guys,I'm lax But trying to own 1 of everything is getting frustrating!!)

I can only say that you are describing what I believe to be standard features on that sweet guitar!!:P

Epiphone switched from the Epiphone-branded "Vibratone" vibratos to Bigsby-branded ones sometime around 2002 or 2003, I believe, for all the models that had them. Also affected were the ES-295's, Jorma Kaukonen Rivieras and some special-edition Casinos.

I like my Wildkat a lot too, but it wouldn't have occurred to me to compare it to a Lucille --- I own both, but they are such different guitars that I use them for different things. P-90's get colors that humbuckers don't and vice versa.

Well for some reason i always liked the single coil sound more then the humbuckers.

For me they are more versitile, i'm a big fan of Jimi, SRV, Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower etc.

I like Carlos Santana, Gary Moore, Slash, Billy Gibbons for the ''Les Paul humbucker sound'' though.

Don't know many P-90 users, maybe John Fogerty with CCR, Carlos Santana on his first 2 albums,

the Beatles and probably any of the above guitarist have used a P-90 equiped guitar in their life.

I like them nasty P-90's a lot,

I've had mine a couple of years now, one of my fav's. I would strongly suggest a graphite nut, or bridge saddle's, or both. The B70 vibrato is a tad finicky, with the tension bar being the culprit IMO. Other wise a sweet guitar, luv P-90's, and need an Elitist VS Casino to round out my collection of Epi' hollowbodies.

BENT E,

Nice finish but, what color is it ?

Mine is AN (antique naturel). Thanks for the advice on the nut and saddles, in time i will replace them.

Never use the tremolo though, not even on my Stratocaster (i have it blocked), but i like the sound of

guitars with tremolos. You got the Bigsby licenced tremolo like mine, do you also have the Grover tuning keys?

My Wildkat came without a pickguard!

The color is metalic red, a Ltd. edition that I got on a closeout from MF. I'd like to have one in all the color's they come in, they are really cool guitars. The Kat is the first axe I grab when entering my home studio. It's so comfortable, and the unplugged volume is just right for jamming on the couch when watching TV with the little woman as well.

Mine came with the Grover tuners also, i think just about all Epi's over $400 come with them, or the keystone kluson type.

The pickguard was made by me. with the bracket being done up by a buddy at work. I do believe the guard does give it a bit more class though. Some like them, some don't, a matter of choice.

If you rub a little pencil lead in the nut slots, it should get you through to the next string change. I just tend to change out to the Graphite nut's to most of my guitar's as a routine practice. They work pretty well I've found. Guitar resource has them if your interested. The DOT nut should fill the bill, just double check the nut width.

Anyway, congrat's and enjoy!

Nice job, Bent E --- the pickguard seems to suit the metallic red very well. Here's mine --- it's a Samick with natural mahogany (before they started using lighter lauan and dyeing it dark), and I replaced the knobs with pearl-topped ones.
