The Latest Dots are the Best Yet, But....

I really like the improvements made to the current MIC Dot production, especially the relocation of the neck joins - no more glue joint along the top 1/4 of the neck. It's been integtrated into the heel and (what appears to be) at the base of the headstock. a definite improvement. But, the black plastic nut REALLY needs to be changed to a normal bone-colored nut, just like the ones used on every other ES-type model (and Les Pauls) in the product range. The relatively-new injection-molded TUSQ nuts are so inexpensive, I can't believe Epiphone can't source a better nut for the terrific Dot model. Such a nice guitar, deserves a true ES-type nut!

I quite agree. That said, the Dot is still hands-down the best quality guitar you can buy for under $400 (IMO).

Last night I was watching 'The History of Rock' on VH1 Classic. I watched the segment on the '60's and '70's and was pleasantly surprised to see all those 335's again. It's a shame the Dot-style guitars have seemingly fallen out of style with the young folks. They are such great guitars.

I'm mostly a Tele guy and play lots of country stuff, but I've been getting into jazz and have been looking at 335s. I like the Elitist Dot and the Epi-Dot and really need something with hummers, vs. single-coils, so the Casino doesn't fit the bill. The Sheraton's nice, but I don't need all the bling. The Dot seems to fit the bill, for something I can string-up with flatwounds and go jazz-chording on. I own the '62 Epi-12 string in my avatar, and have owned other Epiphone guitars over the years. I think they're terrific guitars. I just can't understand the nut on the Dot, but, I suppose I could always have it changed. But, as a guy who's been playing for 35 years, the black plastic nut seems out-of-place to me.
