bassplayer_71
On my EB-0, would it hurt to use long scale strings? I know it uses short scale. I have a pack of EB slinky 45-100 that I had from my old bass, and was wanting to change the strings. Thanx.
Lerxst1281733995
I know I answered this question in a PM, but I'll answer it again here... When you cut the strings past the "silked" ends, (up into the windings) and wind them around the tuner peg, the windings are likely to break and come unraveled... Freuds_cat
Cutting 34" scale strings to suit 30.5" necks can be done but if you can avoid it then you are better off. I have a 25" scale P bass which is nearly impossible to buy strings for and I don't have much choice but to cut strings down or pay insane prices for a very limited selection of strings, none of which are in a gauge that I like. The biggest problem I find with doing this is not the windings unraveling but that the string tension is very slack. bassplayer_71 are you after flats or rounds for your EB-0? Yipes! That's shorter than some guitars... You would have to use very light gauge strings on a 25" scale bass, because it takes more tension to get heavier strings up to pitch, and the shorter the scale, the harder it is to achieve that tension.. There shouldn't be much of a tension problem on a 30.5" scale bass, though... I put long scale strings on my Viola once, and the strings had plenty of tension... Freuds_cat
What size E string do you use on the Viola Lerxst?
Lerxst1281733995
I have a .95 E on it right now.. I think the gauge is similar to the crappy strings it came with.. I didn't really choose the gauge.. They were just the only short-scale flats I could find in a reasonable price range.. They're RotoSounds..
Freuds_cat
Yep, I'd agree with you re string gauge. The original factory fitted's felt like 100's to me on the Viola that I last played in a shop, and on my Woody bass.
