List of Artist I've seen play Epiphone:

Django Reinhardt - the only electrics he'd play

Jimi Hendrix (Jimi's 6 string maple acoustic was his favorite guitar)

Billy Gibbons - a big collector, has several

Les Paul - look at the movies he made with Bing Crosby in the 40s and 50s. The original Les Paul, "the Log" had an Epi neck.

Chet Atkins

Elvis Presley

John Lennon

Paul McCartney

Coldplay - played Elitist exclusively for a while, still in repertoire

Howard Roberts (he preferred his Epi Fusion, to the Gibson Model, but liked his Les Pauls more)

Loretta Lynn (her Kalamazoo Dove is supposed to be the only guitar she'll play in public)

Just for starters, I think that is a pretty impressive list. In talking with guitarist my guess is you would be hard pressed to find one that hadn't played or owned an Epiphone or even several.

Oh, ... and about every Jazz picker I've ever heard of.

if you had guitars HANDED to you......would you take the epi over the gibson? honestly?

Goooood question.... In Suplex's current topic "What makes you loyal to Epis?", there's reasons why we prefer our Epis. Makes me wonder how many of us intentionally discarded the Gibbys for the Epis........J

Hendrix (as well as Johnny Winter) played an Epiphone Wilshire before getting into Fenders. Hendrix also had an Epiphone Casino that he purchased at Manny's 11/7/69 for $265.

That is a very good point. Gibson has no shortage of musicians they sponsor, nor do they have a shortage of musicians wanting to be sponsored. All guitar companies (heck, all companies) do this. Is the player using that guitar because he signed a contract and gets them for free? Or is he playing that guitar because that's what he wants to be playing?

gibson actually wanted to sponsor kurt Cobain, but he couldnt find one he liked....... fender took for ever to agree to signing him and if memory serves, he still had to pay for all of them (the only ones that were ever purchased new were the mexi strats that were usually destroyed.. and a few jap mustangs) free gibsons and he said NO..

but yeah, i would like to see what people actually play because they like or because they are given to them.

I don't think there is a serious player who will play an instrument which will hamper his performance in any way. The fact they may have suddenly hit it big don't make them gear whores. They are still like you and me. Looking for an instrument that will bring out the best in their playing.

just wondering. he only one that ive seen consistently is noel gallagher over the last 15 years.

Actually' date=' Noel doesn't use Epi any longer. He's been on Gibson for quite some time...since Be Here Now, IIRC, maybe shortly after that tour. he calls epiphone "a poor man's Gibson" now, the traitor! :) :D
