pablowerk Posted May 19, 2008 Share Posted May 19, 2008 I just bought a new Epiphone Casino... all in all, I love the guitar except the bridge. I play it mostly acoustically and the bridge rattles. I am looking to replace the bridge, but I haven't been able to find a compatible bridge, I would like to just replace the bridge without removing the posts. I have been looking at this bridge TonePros Standard Tune-O-Matic Does anyone know if this will fit? Or any suggestions on bridges that will fit ? If one purchase a $600 brand new instrument, shouldn't all items work? I know that they are made in Asia, but, really, if you bought a car from Korea and it had rattling and buzzing, you would take it back to the dealer to have them fix it at NO COST TO YOU. I was told that all hallow bodies have some buzz and that I was "nit-picking". After arguing for a bit I finally gave up when this sales person eventually blamed it on the "over seas" manufacturing.... to which I thought to myself... does Epiphone realize how you guys are pitching their instruments?! TWANG Posted May 19, 2008 Share Posted May 19, 2008 there are a couple available for your guitar. tone pros cost a bit more. check out www.wdmusic.com and www.allparts.com they'll have a good list. they supply me, so my prices are lower than online. you can ask around in here, I give good price and service. not meaning to be a hard sell.. it's just that I'm making up an order now and when I order all at once the shipping charges go down and we both save money. I had to file the notch on the saddle a little deeper for the low "E" string because the string kept popping out. After doing that, it works fine. I've had really good experiences, with them, in the past on similar issues. GC is not the best place, for that kind of "service after the sale?" Some (locations) are better, than others, though. But, if it's a warrenty issue, Gibson/Epiphone will take care of it, as long as you give them the model, serial number, and place of purchase (they might ask for a reciept number, as well, but not always), to verify it was purchased at an "authorised" dealer, etc. Anyway, just an idea. Hiwhat Posted May 20, 2008 Share Posted May 20, 2008 I recently bought a Valensi Riviera...great sounding and gorgeous guitar...but the bridge rattled just like yours! Most likely the problem is caused by the retainer wire that keeps the saddles in place. After looking for replacements, I decided to try that "nail polish" trick first: First, set your intonation. Do it right! Then remove the bridge (just loosen the strings and carefully pull it off) and put tiny dabs of CLEAR nail polish on the retainer wire ( between the saddles and where it goes in the bridge). Also on the back of the saddles where they meet the chassis - and where the intonation screws sit in the bridge. Let dry. When you`re done, the saddles shouldn´t move if you slightly push them with your fingers. Reinstall the bridge. Bingo! No rattles. No worries. Plus, the polish is almost invisible. And the smell goes away... PS. If you have to reset your intonation, the screws will break through the polish easily. PPS. My bridge was stamped with "B-2" on the back. It´s the ABR-1 type. I ended up purchaseing a Gotoh GE103B/C Tune-o-matic w/ Standard Post - Chrome It fit right on the original posts. The only thing I had to do was file the saddles a bit. Here's a link I wish Epiphone would read all these threads and replace their crappy saddle on new casinos so people wouldn't have to go out and buy a new one! Hope this helps everyone out. mls8888 Posted February 13, 2009 Share Posted February 13, 2009 I got a new Casino the other week and it wasn't long until it started rattling on the E string so I got a new bridge (Gotoh GE103B/C Tune-o-matic w/ Standard Post - Chrome ... as suggested on here), cost me £17 on ebay. I fit the new bridge, had to file down the saddles a little so the strings could sit in them, tuned it up and ... it still rattled! It was then that i decided to make sure that all screws were nice and tight, I found that one of the screws on the bridge end pickup was a little loose (funny enough the one just where the E string sits), tightened it up, and hey presto, no more rattle!! ... if only I'd tried that before I spent the £17 on the new bridge! I'm serioulsy considering taking the bloody thing back to the shop where i got it from now! Such a shame, i was really lovin it, all the time it didn't rattle that is! mls8888 Posted February 14, 2009 Share Posted February 14, 2009 Ok, I just basically took the casino to pieces and doubly made sure that every single screw was nice and tight, put it all back together, re-strung it and for the time being the rattle as gone, but it wouldn't surprise me if the rattle came back, if it does I'm just gonna get in touch with the company I brought it from and see what they say about it, hopefully get it replaced or re-funded, I only brought it about 2-3 weeks ago, was perfect for that first week and a half until the rattling started. Really don't think it was the bridge, cause it still done it on a new one as well as the stock one. I'm wondering if anyone has tried to utilize a conventional cylindrical spring slipped over the intonation screw between the saddle and the bridge? I'm going to take another look at it, and it may have to be a short spring, but it looks like it might work. I just played my Casino yesterday for the first time in a while, as I purchased a hollow-body G&L ASAT that seems to fit my bill right now. I dig the Casino, but that buzzing is a real irritant. Tried the finger nail polish trick which worked for a few days but then it came back. I bought a replacement bridge from Guitar Fetish that popped right on. It is still a little buzzy but much better. Interestingly, I have an Elitist 335 Dot that has an identical bridge that has never buzzed at all.
