The majority of guitarists—especially beginners and intermediate players—rely on the Pentatonic and Harmonic Minor scales when soloing. Why? Because Minor scales are the most common and easiest scales to learn, and they're usually one of the first scales guitar instructors teach you.

But there's a lot more to soloing than just Pentatonic and Harmonic Minor scales. The Major scale is probably the most overlooked scale of all, and it's not any harder to play than any of the others. Today's lesson is from noted instructor Charles Sedlak, who shows you everything you need to know to start soloing using Major scales.

Today's lesson is taken from the DVD Beginning Blues Guitar with Charles Sedlak, which is published by Icons of Rock and guides you through a fairly comprehensive introduction to playing blues guitar. Sedlak gives you a well-guided lesson through the techniques mastered by the likes of B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Buddy Guy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others.
