Guest Gibson Lifestyle
Lesson of the Day: Looking Beyond the Minor Arpeggio 06.19.2008 Yesterday's lesson touched on using a Bm arpeggio over an Em chord progression. The underlying message of the lesson was to try and look beyond the Bm arpeggio, and incorporate other scales into it, which can add endless possibilities to them. Today's lesson takes a look at the Em arpeggio, and how to build entirely different riffs and solos from this very basic arpeggio. The instructor, Benoit Nadeau from GuitarTricks.com, takes you from learning the basic arpeggio pattern to working on seeding the octave notes within the scale. He also looks at using hammer on and pull off riffs that can also add much diversity to your style. He also takes a look at how you can break the arpeggio into smaller, sweeping patterns instead of using only the full arpeggio, which gives you more options and different tones when soloing. All of this, of course, helps you build entirely creative solos when composing songs, or when you're improvising to someone else's songs.
