ES-333 question from a lefty

Hi

I'm an epiphone player i've got a les paul that i picked up second hand when i decided to learn to play. its a great guitar, looks awesome, sounds awesome, but im really likin the hollow bodies and semi hollow bodies but im left handed and choices are limited. i know epiphone has a couple available left handed but i really like the ES-333 Tom Delonge model, its looks exactly like what i want a guitar to look like and the dirty fingers pickup is perfect for what i want to play. i talked about it with the guy at the local guitar shop and he said he doesnt see it being to difficult to convert to left handed for me if i ever decide to get it but im wondering if this would be a good idea or not. any thoughts from some fellow lefties and all others would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Here is my RH EJ-300S converted to lefty...I like it and it worked out well. New nut and saddle. More photos available here if you

search. The guitar you want to convert only has two tone / volume knobs, correct? It shouldn't be a problem..remember,

McCartney played a RH Casino and Hendrix was even know to play a Les Paul!

"I finally got the EJ-300S over to the luthier to have the action lowered...the difference is huge and the guitar now plays great and sounds very nice...a long road to travel but I am now very pleased...so if you have some minor adjustments that you have been putting off (or your tech has ha ha) that you think might improve your guitar, I recommend making the effort to get it done..."

A double cutaway guitar is extremely easy to convert to lefty becasue the body is symetrical. You wont loose any fret accessability by flipping the guitar over, and it will remain comfortable to play. Changing it lefty would only require drilling new holes to reset the angle of the bridge (which would then be reversed) and the installation of a new lefty nut. The controls, of course, will now be on the upper rather than lower bout, but that's easy enough to adapt to.

Google some pictures of Paul McCartney with his Casino and you will see what I mean.

Man, that's a pretty Acoustic, Dubstar! Have you ever considered putting a lefty pickguard, but keeping'the

right one, too...kind of like the old Everly Brother's or even an old "Elvis" model had? I think Bonnie Raitt has

a Guild guitar with two pickguards, and it looks great! Anyway...just an idea. (Didn't say it was a good one!) LOL!

Took my lefty Casino out and held it as a righty would. Right arm rests on the Tone controls and the pickup selecter switch is uncomfortably high. Ugh. With new lefty Epi Sheratons and the Heritage and Eastman 335-style types available and the occasional used Gibson ES-330, I would only buy a right-handed electric guitar as a wall decoration.

Also, for low-budget fun check out the Agile Harm 1 lefty semi-hollowbody with P-90's.

"Don't Assume" is the lesson to be learned from my previous post. I assumed an ES-333 Tom Delonge has two pickups and it just has one. After looking at a photo of one, the placement of the output jack with cord could interfere with your left arm and the volume knob on top would be weird for me, but could work for you. I would suggest plugging it in and holding it left-handed at the dealer and find out if it feels good to you. If you buy it and decide to sell in the future, putting a new nut on for a right-handed person would make it easier to sell because there are many more rightys than leftys.

cool guys thanks,

yeah i figured id use the 90 degree plug to try and eliminate the plug problem, and the knob thing is still kinda buggin me. i was also thinkin of buyin a lefty dot and swappin in a dirty fingers humbucker, but i dont know, still diggin the tom delonge

I think i've just about made my decision to go with the ES-333 and get it flipped so i can play left handed' date=' after seein that mccartney has been able to do it forever i figure why cant i[/quote']

Left handed 333's are available. They are rare but they are out there. I've noticed a few of them lately on ebay.

Speaking of, with the economy sucking wind, I've noticed a large increase in the number of lefty guitars on ebay.

If your a lefty and a buyer, now is a good time. I know since I just scored a nice guitar for a very very good price plus 10% off the price. :-k/

hey' date=' just wondering if this seems legit to you guys, cuz i know on the gibson site there are no mentions of a lefty version of this guitar

thanks guys[/quote']

Looks legit to me. I doubt someone making a low cost copy would got to all the trouble of using what looks like high grade mahogany for that neck, such nice tuners, etc, or whether they flip the back access panel around. But who knows? Call the Gibson 800 # with the guitar's serial number, and they will tell you whether it was issued to a LH ES 333.
