How much does your guitar weigh?

I've done a few searches and haven't found much discussion about this.

I recently bought a used Epiphone Dot. I really like 335 style guitars and this one is in pretty nice shape. I'll be replacing the pickups and other electronics, but I'm very happy with this guitar otherwise. I'm a little surprised at how heavy it is though. On my bathroom scale it comes in at around 7.5 lbs. According to a lot of the posts I've read on the internet that is actually on the light side for an electric guitar. I guess Les Pauls can weigh as much as 10 lbs depending on the materials. I don't know about Fenders.

I'd be curious to know what other people's guitars weigh, both Epiphones and other brands. I'm particularly curious about 335 style models. Is a Casino a lot lighter than a Dot or a Sheraton? I did find one online dealer that listed a lot of new Gibson ES-335 models with their weights and they all are at least a pound heavier than my Dot, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Anyone else care to weigh their guitar and share the results?

Phil

I'll have to weight the sheri..

the lp studio comes in at just over ten lbs.

but then, I have a bigsby to add, and some new straplocks, and locking tuners, so we'll be pushing 11lbs next week.

It's heavy, for sure.

But I don't mind. Makes the Sheri seem light!

My Epi LP (with Epi Bigsby) is my heaviest, at 9lbs, 2.5oz. My Linderts are around that, and my Industrial LP (aluminum top and back, fully hollow) is down at 8lbs, 10oz. My Hamer is 8/10 and my Washburn Laredo (Tele) is 8/3. I have a Squier Strat and a Jay Turser JT-Res (resonator thinline) that are featherweights. Gimme light every time; I wish none was heavier than the Hamer. I'm going to get some kind of semi (used to have a Sheraton I really miss), but it's nice to see they don't have to be heavy -- that 6-pound Casino sounds nice!

If I could find an LP that sounded like mine, an Epi Standard (10 lbs) and a Gibson LP Junior (10.5 lbs), and weighed the same as my 6 1/2 lb SG...well, I'd own fewer guitars. Same with my Dot Studio and the Riviera, both just over 10 lbs, compared to my Ibanez AF105 at 7 lbs. But, none of them sound alike, so I guess I just have to put up with it. (Heavy sigh). I will say, though, that I don't think I ever want an 11 pounderwrapped around my neck, no matter what it sounds like.

My flametop G400 goes 7.7 lbs.

My Gib Flying V is 11 lbs. even

My old non chambered GLP is a whopper @ 14.1 lbs.

not weighed my Tele w/Bigsby, or my Sheraton II yet.

I actually prefer a slightly heavier guitar.....i guess its what i'm used to

I've played my GLP for 20+ yrs now.

Wow! Your Dot Studio and Riviera are both over 10 lbs! Have you done some modifications to them? Added a bigsby or something? That seems like a lot.

Both are modified, but nothing that would add weight. No, they are just heavy. Really hard to play one of them, and then switch to an acoustic. I keep lifting the guitar over my head without noticing I've done it until the neck angle gets to far out to reach a chord. :- O:):^o

#-o Interesting topic. I had an older Emperor made in 1998. It was considerably heavier than my 2 newer ones from '03 and '04. Made in the same factory, but I noticed the finish on the newer ones don't have that "poured-on" look like my older one. When was your's made?

I'd reckon both my Epi solid body and my Gibson Melody Maker to be 5.5 - 6 lb each. Thin bodies and single pickups on both.

I much prefer light guitars due to occasional back/neck issues and because they are so resonant.

Lightest guitar I have ever picked up was a 1964 Hofner Beatle Bass at maybe 4-5 lb?!? Paul McCartney was a wuss!! [tongue]
