Eddie Rondack
I just picked this one up this morning on eBay... never even played a koa J45 before but it tempted me into doing it nonetheless... just look at it! Opinions from those who have played them?
jefleppard
i knew this one wouldn't last long...its gorgeous. i had a koa tacoma that played beautifully. very rich sound w/baggs element p/u.
michaelsegui
Wow... I love that burst! I just borrowed a friends koa J-185. While I love the look of the koa, I find this guitar at least kind of lacking in the bass.... how is the bass in your J-45?
Eddie Rondack
Bass is great on my J-45 Rosewood. I've had a hog J-45 and Southern Jumbo in the past and bass was good. I'm hoping this will be somewhere in-between...? My experience with J-185's in general is that, compared to J-45's, they are much more balanced and so would lack bass in comparison... Rambler
"While I love the look of the koa, I find this guitar at least kind of lacking in the bass." Typical both of small jumbos and Koa, which is a fairly balanced tonewood. Neither has the low end of a RW dread or slope.
dodge
Some nice koa on those guitars. I also have J-45 Koa and I don't find it to be lacking in bass at all.Not sure what string gauge your using, but I think mediums bring the best out of a Gibson.
