EPIPHONE RIVIERA 1983

The Blue Goon

Recommended Posts

Hi all, im new to the site but i was wondering if anybody out there ows or knows where to get hold of an 1983 Riviera, one identical to the ones Bonehead and Noel Gallagher used in Oasis? I have tried eBay and Vintage and Rrae guitars so i thought i would come to the next best place. I already have one but my bloody dog knocked it over and put a nasty dent in the side of the body. I cannot bring myself to play or even look at it now!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys,

Andy (The Blue Goon)

Andy. Sorry to hear about the dog damaging it, how bad is the dent? (any photo`s?). The Riviera`s in question were made by Matsumoku in Japan, and production of all guitars ceased there in 1987. I`ve owned and played various Matsumoku made guitars since my first in 84, and currently have two Casino`s, and an 82 Aria Pro II TA-60, which incidently along with the Westone Rainbow I, were built to the very same spec`s as the Riviera (just different shapes), all the way down to the MMK61 pickups! I would say, your best bet of finding a replacement, is eBay, and I have spotted about 6 this year, going for between £350-650. Just keep on the lookout, I`m sure you`ll find one, and if I do, before you, I`ll send you a PM. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Ah, Andy...welcome to the forum. I'd say, just name the guitar after your dog, pick it up, and play the Hell out of it.

After it's had it fair share of "knocks" and scrapes...you'll look back and laugh about what your dog did. I know it

feels "tragic" now...but, look at Stevie Ray Vaughn's Strat, or Roy Gallagher's for that matter. Besides, after the

first "Dent," you now don't have to worry about it, anymore...PLAY it!! ;>)

OR...a good luthier in the UK, might be able to fix it up, good as new?

Hi Blue Goon! Welcome to the forum.

As an ex Manc, and ex Oasis fan, I feel I might know what you're yearning for. (I'm a Man City fan as well, if that helps!)

What Charlie Brown said is good advice, either ignore the ding and play on, or get it repaired. A good luthier will restore your guitar to it's 1983 glory.

If you are Oasis crazy, maybe consider an epiphone supernova? I owned one in 97, (the man city blue one) and I loved it.

Otherwise, Noel tends to play a Gibson 335 these days. I switched too, but only to a Sheraton so that I could play blues with more credability!

Come on City! [-(

I thought Bonehead and Noel used 70's Matsumokus?! I could be wrong....

I would also consider a Sheraton, I got mine because Noel played Sheratons (it was 12 years ago!). His first Union Jack was a 70s Sheraton I believe....

Good luck in your quest man, and for all you City fans out there may I add "Champions of Europe!"

Guys, thanks for the replys and the kind words. I will take some pics and post as quick as i can. I have had a Union Jack supernova and a sheraton before now and nothing compares. This guitar was the best guitar i have had. I have 2 rickenbackers, 3 fenders, 1 epiphone elite casino, 1 gibson les paul and a few acoustics, 1 1969 gibson sg and nothing comes close. If anyone sees one in brown please let me know.

Cheers boys,

Andy

The union jack was a 1996 usa made Sheraton. The headstock shape, mini hums and frequensator give it away. Plus, check out Maine Road and see how shiny the gold is!
