Since we started the week with a banjo lesson, we thought we'd keep the bluegrass theme going with a lesson on how to play some basic bluegrass rhythm guitar.

Today's instructor is Ryan Crist, who runs the website BanjoExpert.com and offers great lessons on playing the banjo and flatpicking techniques for bluegrass rhythm acoustic guitar. You can find information on the latter at flatpickers.com. The guy's an absolute monster, and he exudes passion for his craft in such a way that makes it very enjoyable to learn from him.

In this lesson, Crist takes a look at some very basic bluegrass rhythm guitar flatpicking techniques, many of which fit nicely with banjo accompaniment. He also shares a few secrets on how to get that distinct bluegrass sound from an acoustic, and offers several subtle changes to some basic chords to help achieve this classic sound. This lesson proves an excellent starting point for anyone looking to step into the world of bluegrass pickin'.
