Learning how to play fingerstyle acoustic guitar is one of the coolest things on the planet, and Jim Deeming from JamPlay.com is one the best teachers to learn fingerstyle from.

A lot of guitarists can see someone play fingerstyle guitar and immediately think it's too hard to learn, or simply not worth the effort. But that couldn't be any further from the actual truth. Fingerstyle guitar is not that difficult to learn if you have good instructional tools, and Deeming and the folks at JamPlay offer some excellent instructional tools to get started and progress all the way to the advanced level of fingerstyle playing.

In today's lesson, Deeming touches on several fingerstyle basics, including alternating bass lines and open chord progressions—two essential elements of fingerstyle playing. He also demonstrates proper right hand technique, considered the important aspect of good fingerstyle playing.

Like anything else, developing good fingerstyle technique takes time, and lots of practice. As we've said plenty of times before, the pros didn't just magically pick up their guitars one day and instinctively know how and what to play. The good ones mastered their craft by putting in lots of practice time. So get to it!
