Learning a few jazz guitar basics can greatly enhance one's ability to play any style of guitar music. The same can be said for learning some basic classical guitar techniques.

 

One such jazz guitar basic involves a technique called Drop 2 Voicings, which are formed by taking a chord and then dropping the next to the highest note to the bass note. This technique proves quite useful when you want to find chords for alternate tunings, and also for jamming on various jazz grooves.
