pricey... and replacing the tubes wouldn't just put a hole in your wallet, it'd eat your wallet whole...

(hole-whole... get it?)

that and i don't care for mixing 6v6 tone with el84's... i'd rather just use 6v6's, thanks.

if you want it, suit yourself. I'd like the wattage controls on each channel though... it'd be nice to have a 2 channel amp that can go from clean to power tube distortion without a major jump in volume...

didn't realize they did that... I guess i might have to wait to get an agile Harm 1 until i can afford a pickup swap... Well' date=' there won't be p90-sized q tuners any time soon anyway... and i can't stand 60 cycle hum without raging feedback...

does agile wax pot their pickups?[/quote']

It's really only because I'm sitting too close to the amp. It's fine when standing 15 feet away...

Those are some very useful amp demonstrations' date=' thanks for posting them!

I find it especially helpful that you play the same song with the various settings:

That makes it much easier for me to hear and compare the range of attainable sounds.

Good vid's Brian - nice, clear sound! I'm thinkin' that the feedback would be due to the semi-hollow construction of the guitar (f-holes, more resonance) and not so much the pickups. The P-90's that came with both of my Epi's (K.A. Rainbows) are all wax potted. Of course, the Zephyr Blues Deluxe feeds back because it is a big *** hollowbody, although there are pieces of wood on the underside of the top, supporting the pickups. The Les Paul, being a solid plank, wouldn't feed back unless you hold it right up to the amp. A Casino, on the other hand, is fully hollow, so it would be feedback city. As for the "Mountain" setting, my guess would be "MESA" - not something that bodes very well with a semi or hollow guitar.

Very nice amp!!! :-

Hey all, thanks for the "feedback" yuk yuk. The squealing is definitely not a hollowbody vs. solidbody issue, believe me, I know the difference quite well having played big-*** hollowbodies for some 35 years. It's the P-90s pickups in the Riviera, they're not waxed potted and they need to be. Or replaced with something better, or at least I need to stand further away from the amp on that "On The Mountain" setting when using that guitar.

It's not really the kind of setting most folks would even want to use with a semi, so not such a big deal. Having said that, the amp does have some issues when Gain, Master and Presence controls are all maxed out. Still, it's a kickass little amp for $300, I'm not tired of it so far, and it may yet make it into the permanent stable.

just leave a signed note saying you will accept it, and most of the time they will leave it...

FedEx showed up around 2:30 today. Unpacked, plugged in and all worked. Couldn't get to it for a couple of hours but just spent some time with my Gibby LP and Mr. Sr. Woohoo!! It also takes pedals very well from what I've tried so far. I think I'm liking this a lot. As Brian's videos pointed out, the reverb pretty much sucks, but otherwise, I'm a happy camper.

Biggest bummer is a standard 17" long-spring reverb tank won't fit into the 16.5" cab:

That's the upgrade this baby needs the most:

Hey Brian, thanks for posting this stuff. Lots of guys have been waiting impatiently for this amp for a LONG, LONG time, so it's good that you took the time to post clips and porn shots.

Sounds to me as though it's got the trademark Vjr mush going at higher levels, but it shouldn't be hard at all to tweak that out. Knowing how they screwed up the bias on the Vjr, I'd guess that's a big part of it.

Ruby Tubes makes some decent replacement reverb tanks, btw, although personally, I'd have no use for it anyway.

Overall, it seems as though it's got potential. I have to admit, I'd pretty much written this amp off entirely, so it's good to see that it's finally become real. It looks nice sitting on the cabinet!

Thanks M - I'm still not sure if it was worth the wait or all the hype, but for now I'm keeping it. It's a far more flexible head than the VJr, seems to have more substantial iron, and I expect will be a great platform for mods. Please feel free to link these posts over at Sewatt, I'm anxious to see what kinds of improvements the board-level guys come up with. If Epi had come out with this last year as planned, there would probably already be several BillM-type web sites all over this thing.

BTW, the stock tank is the short-spring Ruby Tubes EB2C1B. The long-spring version sounds much better, but it's standard Fender dimensions (17") and won't fit.

In case you didn't get that pm i sent you, i'd suggest replacing that ruby tank (looks like a cheapened version of the accutronics type 1) with an accutronics type 8 reverb tank. The type 8 has a 3rd spring, and sounds closer to the 17" two spring "type 4" reverb tanks (the "fender" one that you've got. I have one just like it in my hammond organ- hammond was the first to use spring reverb, and they owned accutronics... accutronics still exists today, and sells reverb units on ebay.)

type 4: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type4.htm

type 8: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/Type8.htm

edit: screw ebay, you can order on their website instead: http://www.accutronicsreverb.com/ordering.htm

Well...a bit of sleep definitely helps..I found some mistakes in the phase splitter part of the draft schematic...and power supply..and..? :-k

Re Reverb - you can do a lot just by changing the resistance over the reverb pot..but yeah, the tank does kinda blow :-({|=

anyway..here is a link to the updated schematic..

which hopefully makes a bit more sense.. :)
