john_calver
I'm desperately seeking a Japanese Epiphone Riviera like the 80's on Noel Gallagher and Bonehead used to play.. Does anyone know where I can find one or have one they would sell?
frenchie1281734003
John, there is one on U.K. eBay now. Item number 290382209487 and the seller is Hamid3334. It`s a Matsumoku made Riviera from July 82.
AS90
Yep, I was looking at this today, he says it is a USA original but its not... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Epiphone-Riviera-Electric-Guitar-Original-USA_W0QQitemZ290382209487QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV?hash=item439c20e1cf
john_calver
Awesome, looks like it's lost it's printed E scratchplate? Any idea where to get those?
jonnyg
Awesome' date=' looks like it's lost it's printed E scratchplate? Any idea where to get those? [/quote']Actually it never had the "E" scratchplate. The one for sale, as the guy on eBay says, is a US market model (although definitely made in Japan) and the vast majority of '82 US models didn't have the "E" scratchplate or truss rod cover. The English models (like the ones Oasis used) had the white scratchplate and truss rod cover with the "E" in black and were available in Cherry or Antique Sunburst. Here's mine
john_calver
Oh very nice, how much do you think it's worth? Also do you want to sell yours?

No fret end binding, but same electrics with shielded pots, same MMK61 pickups, same body materials, same three piece laminated Maple neck and neck profile. It`s slightly smaller than the Riviera, but like your guitar, it`s wonderful. Aria ProII TA-60 1982.
john_calver
Can you get replacement scratchplates and truss rod covers for Japanese rivieras?
peeper
Hey frenchie, what makes them the same, the electronics? Cause I see some very obvious differences in the two guitars you posted. Body shape, f hole shape, hardware, inlays (as you stated). Same factory and electronics maybe, sure I'll give you that, but they are not the same guitars by any means. frenchie1281734003
Can you get replacement scratchplates and truss rod covers for Japanese rivieras? No' date=' but the parts in question are not that hard to manufacture. If for example you bought the one on eBay, then you could buy a sheet of W/B/W scratchplate material from one of the many on line suppliers, and use your original scratchplate as a template to form a new one. As for the TRC, I have made some in the past that were quite adequate for forum members use, and I am sure I could make one for you. These were based on the Lennon 65 reissue Casino TRC. [img']http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee74/frenchie_044/trussrodcovers002.jpg[/img] I am sure I could do one with three screws. And as for the scratchplate logo, this is my Ex Casino, which my mate now owns

I did say in my previous post "Basically the same guitar in different clothing"(The differences are the clothing). A better choice for comparison would probably have been the original version of the Westone Rainbow I from 81/early 82, which had exactlythe same body outline as the Riviera as well. john_calver
Thanks Fantana, I have got the there before for other epis and they are the newer type, the older Epiphone E was longer as in Frenchie's design above. There wouldn`t be any charge, more than happy to help, just PM me.
