Help w/ Epiphone "E" on pickguard

We'll here's a question that just reeks of importance, but I'm anal retentive. I just bought a new Casino and the dealer takes off the little "E" on the pickguard. They said "they just fall off or curl up so we take them off."

Now for the big dumb questions, is there a proper color "E" for that Casino Sunburst and has anyone found the best adhesive to hold one on?

I would presume that an auto trim adhesive would work well and be dang permanent. Did the Casino always have an E on the pickguard?

Well, there you have it. My big problem to fix with the guitar. The dealer fixed the neck fretting issue (set a few frets better & adjusted the neck for me) and threw some new strings on it. 11's. The new guitar was made in Nov 2007 and that seems like either Epiphone or this dealer ended up sitting on these things for a while.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the site with the "E"s but for $18 bucks either Epi or the dealer can get me one

If I were you I'd try to get a hold of a 'foil' E sticker... They seem to have produced quite many of those for the different 'vintage' reissues of Epis... I never liked the 'raised' logo idea, because these things just don't stay on it...

I superglued mine on the pickguard but be careful not to use too much of it or else it'll look messy and you can't remove those traces of superglue on and around the logo...

Well, the price is relative to supply and demand. I guess there's enough demand from "anal retentive" types (like you from your own admission) to justify the high price...sorry, I couldn't resist. Another option is a custom made scratch plate from forum member Twang, or some other source, and disregard the E.

Mine started to lift after a couple of weeks, so I slid a pick under it and pulled it off completely. Stuck it back on with some double sided tape and it's still there. Next time it comes off, which I don't doubt it will, double sided tape surely isn't permanent, I'll probably glue it or something. Looks better with it on there.

I'm in the same boat with you Aster1. I just bought a 2008 Casino VS and it was missing the "E" logo. I got lucky and Bender4Life was kind enough to send the one that fell of his. Thanks Bender.

Its funny how some dealers tend to sit on their inventory for awhile. I just bought a new 2002, thats right new 2002, Fender Strat from one of the local shop where my friend works. The owner of the shop is notorious for buying large amounts of stock and placing some in his shops and letting some sit in a warehouse. Eventually new stock is placed intheir with it and the employees never check the dating when they pull stock. I think its a bad way to manage inventory but I thoink its also cool that I was able to purchase a 2002 model strat and its still new.

Yeah, I wish I could drop by the Chevy dealer and find me a brand new '59 Chevy Impala and that would be way cool. Of course, I'd want to pay the going rate for the 2009 Impala, not some 10x price vintage price! :)

My new SG Custom is a 2006. With my businesses we have a motto: This place ain't no museum, let's turn these model and get new/fresh stock in. May be different with Plasma & LCD HDTV & Blu-Ray players like my A/V store has I guess. But the business principle is sound with turning your inventory over and having good cash flow.

Near end of Saga,

I called Gibson/Epiphone CS a few minutes. ago and the fellow on the phone helping my said that he'd have one sent out to me right away at no charge. That's good service in my book. They hadn't responded from my email request from the "contact us" page of the website yet so I decided to call in. I find this to be the case more often than not. Call, you get good results. quicker.

Back to my "new" Casino being made in Nov 2007. Has anyone detected any change in the quality of construction/sound from 2007 to the new models coming out of the Epi plant in China? Up or down either one?

I had heard from somewhere, either this forum or Harmony maybe, that Epiphone had greatly improved the 2009 models with more changes in their plant in China. Could be just good press, don't know firsthand.

Thanks for all the posts and help!!

Have them get you a replacement and stick it in the case compartment in your guitar case until you decide to sell the guitar. Then you super glue it on. In the meantime, you won't have to worry about it falling off again because it is highly likely it would.

The Casino has always had the E on the pickguard. Originally it was foil (Kalamazoo)' date=' then became a smaller, Gibson-y foil logo (Japan), then it became a raised plastic logo (modern). They're all silver and black.[/quote']

The raised plastic "E" was put on Casino`s from 1966, replacing the Foil one until 69/70. The Matsumoku Japanese made 70-86 Casino`s usually carried a silk screen "E" which changed type face to look more like a foil "E" by 85/86 (Early Terada made Casino`s 88-early 90`s were also screened ). The raised plastic "E" then came back with Korean manufacture from about 93/94.

The "e" fell off my Sheraton. I was in two minds about whether or not to reattach it, and then decided that I would. The Sheraton, like the Casino, is one of the original Epi models and as far as I know they have always had an "e" on the pick-guard.

I used superglue, but not the usual messy liquid stuff.

I bought the superglue gel - applied some to the back of the plastic "e" logo, waited a few seconds for it to get tacky, and then stuck it back on.

If you try this, make sure that you stick the "e" exactly where you want it on the pick-guard, because you only get one shot. I marked the place with a few scraps of post-it note in advance...Oh, and remember when using this stuff - "less is more." You don't want it oozing out from under the badge when you press it down. A few drops spread on the back of the badge with a matchstick is all you need.

My favourite Epi logo of all has to be from the period around 1962-64

64pickguard.jpg

I would love to know exactly what material it was made of, how thick it was if it was really shiny when new or always had that "pewter" sort of dull silvery colour. I have ordered some black pickguard material and will a pickguard for my Sheraton the same shape as the 64 Sheraton 1. Will also try to to do a faithful replica of that beautiful logo as well. If anyone has any input fire away...

The E on my pick guard on my riv lasted a hot minute' date='When I removed the protective plastic the E came with it.[/quote']

The € on my new Dot ES 335 I T didn't last much longer. I'm sure Epiphone could make it non-removeble if they wanted to.

SDC10177-1.jpg

I'll glue it back on when I have time - I cant disguise the fact it's an Epiphone, & I think they look better with the €.

Why would you want to disguise the fact it is an Epiphone........

I would rather have my Sheraton than any other 335 under $2000 and would never pay more that for a 335 type guitar.

Therefore I am very proud to own my Sheraton and it will have a big fat 1964 style Epiphone logo on the pickguard....

You misunderstood. I'm not ashamed to own an Epiphone - I own several. All I meant was that people will still be able to tell it's an Epiphone, even without the €, so to remove it to try & fool people isn't going to work.
