Malpaso Posted January 28, 2010 Share Posted January 28, 2010 I got a hummingbird over a week ago. My old acoustic was a lot easier to play. I love the new Hummingbird but the strings are massive!!! Matt the Cat Posted January 29, 2010 Share Posted January 29, 2010 I think H'birds come from the factory with 12's on so gong to 13's will make it harder to play (thicker strings-more tension) and some say that 13's can cause problems with the structure of the guitar. I have an H'bird which I treated to a bone nut and saddle and I string it with Elixir Phos Bronze 12's and it plays great and it sings! The_Buffalo Posted January 31, 2010 Share Posted January 31, 2010 The Hummingbird I bought last July probably came with 12's, but were dead as dead could be - they were actually rusty. The action was really high, too so I had them put on a new set of strings (12's) and lower the action before I walked out of the store with it. TheLastCrowOnTheWire Posted January 31, 2010 Share Posted January 31, 2010 i use ultra-lights with brass bridge pins (abalone tops)-makes for a spongy playing experince with lots of twang, good for rythem or lead....though next string change i may go a bit heavier, i want that top to shake! Damien Sullins Posted January 4, 2011 Share Posted January 4, 2011 I believe Dadadario makes what is called "Custom Lights"! Quite popular with jazz musicians. I have used them on my Breedlove Pass Port and felt that these were just right . Great tone and somewhat easier to play! I believe they range from 52 to 11s.
