Montana Guitar

A friend of mine has a Montana brand guitar. It is a classical guitar, but with one odd thing, neck binding. While it is not a very 'good' guitar, he uses it as his 'beater.' but continues to try to keep it playable.

He says that in investigating the historyof Montana Guitar that it was a custom shop in Montana until it was bought by... Gibson, who later sold the name to an oufit who is or was making guitars with that monicker in China.

Is the old 'Montana' guitar shop the current Gibson, Bozeman plant?

Sorry, TommyK, someone's pulling your friend's leg.

Montana is a name of a guitar company that started out in Korea. It was never affiliated with Gibson in any way and it was never manufactured in the U.S, let alone Montana. They were an entry level instrument at best and they never tried to make any connection with Gibson Montana. Unscrupulous owners did that to increase their value.
