badbluesplayer
I bought an LP from a guy yesterday and he showed me some pix of a couple of guitars that he's carving. He said he was doing the SG for some guy with 3 Doors Down.
ZenKen
Never really did much for me but they are interesting. See this web site for examples ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime. B) Carver Doug
crazyhair
Very cool, I plan on getting one. Thanks for posting this!
Laaz
Ibanez had some really cool carved guitars that come out of the factory in the 70's. They were Strat replica's and even the head stock was carved.
LPguitarman
Nice, but I would never do that to a Les Paul, It's carved already. SG's ok...
TommyK
Dood! That's outta sight! Think I'd go with matte finish though. The gloss makes it look cheesy.
milod
Back in the 70s the real Guild company had a cupla versions of the SG, the S100 and the S100c which came with a carved top. I couldn't find Gibsons where I lived so... My 35+ year old Guild has carved acorns and oak leaves on it. The small music store made a good deal on the piece since I'd bought and swapped a lot with him in those days. Yeah, the store is still in business but I checked the web site and don't recognize any of the guitar brands nowadays. Anyway, the Guild still has a wonderful neck, exceptional humbuckers and great sound 35 years later. The carving... well, I don't care one way or another, personally. It played exceptionally well and I wanted an SG but no Gibbie dealers around, so... Carving is okay, but it ain't why I got the guitar - although I made a leather strap and did some stamping of acorns and oak leaves on it to match. cabba2203
Some of them look awesome - if I had the money I could see myself doing a builder guitar and have the body custom carved. I don't think I could bring myself to do that to an existing guitar.
milod
Cabba... I'd agree with your take on this. I think it's pretty much for a custom guitar - although you could build it yourself and then send to a good carver with a design you prefer... m
retrosurfer1959
I have wanted to try carving a guitar for a few years - so I bought two of the dual pickup melody makers a few years ago but still haven't gotten around to doing anything with them. pohatu771
I saw someone on eBay selling carved Telecaster bodies for a very good price... I considered one then, but didn't buy any. I may in the future, if I see something I like.
crazyhair
I went to the web site and from what I could see he carves them from wood stock not already made guitars. These are far less in price than a Gibson and a lot more character!
