Konklifer
I just picked up a new Masterbilt DR-500M at a local GC for $300. Guess they are not stocking them locally anymore hence the insane price. Serial # is 0811170930. So it seems: Made: November 2008 Place: China Prod. #: 0930

Suicidehummer
Riddle me this batman: Where the hell was my new 59 LP reissue made? It has a stamped serial number that starts F300... Qingdao China. All the '59 RIs have serials that start with F for some reason.
Suicidehummer
What exactly does the production # stand for ? Is it the amount of units produced that month' date=' or the order in which your guitar came off the line ? F01100017 - Korea / Fine Plant / Oct / 01 - the number 0017 baffles me tho. Thanks ![/quote'] The production number is what number guitar yours was of all the guitars produced that month.
jarrod
Hi Can you let me know where you got your "keys" and factory letter/number identifiers from please. I'm in dispute with someone I bought an Epiphone Dot from and they refuse to take your post as a reliable source. I feel that they say this as your post suggests that what they sold me as a Korean model is in in fact a Chinese one, as denoted by the 5th and 6th digits of the serial number being 15 (full serial number is 08121501484) Thanks. Suicidehummer
No, hes asking how we know that EE corresponds to Qingdao. Anyway, the guitar you bought should have a sticker that says either "Crafted in China" or "Made in Korea".

Jind
I posted this in another post, but I'll put it here as well as perhaps someone can glean a bit of info from it in the future as more guitars get reported. jerrymac and RobinTheHood have helped me identify a 1980's Epiphone that I had stored in the back of my closet and had completely forgotten about. From what jerrymac and RobinTheHood have been able to tell me it appears to be an S series (possibly a special order S-400 with a Kayler Flyer bridge) from somewhere between 1986 - 1989. As noted the serial number may not conform to the current data as it would have it as a 1985 but it appears the S series did not start production until 1986 and it appears not to follow the Samick 8 digit serial number as noted in the Premier guitar article about an S series. For anyone interested the serial number is: 5086940 (picture of the headstock below) - it has a Kramer style headstock and the Kahler Flyer bridge with a H-S-S pickup configuration. Maybe someone out there has a similar guitar and can glean something from this info. Jind

According to you, which is the right value for the guitar (the hardshell is included)? If often mistakes them for later Korean models. You don't include any photos, but the serial # is correct for a 1984 Sheraton made in Japan by Matsumoku. In fact, it was made in May 1984 to be exact. You have a great guitar. The label inside the f hole should look like this: Yours will say Sheraton WR (Wine Red) instead of Sheraton AS (Antique Sunburst) Welcome to the camp Gennaro Acritelli

dan74
Hello, i've just bought my first Epiphone and i'm trying to find out the date and factory where it was made. Having read this thread I have discovered there is a grey cloud above serial numbers that prefix with "GG". My model is a Dove and the serial is GG05100832 So i'm guessing that October 2005 is the date, but where is this illusive GG factory??? Is it safe to assume it's a genuine Epiphone??
Ricochet
In the last couple of years there have been several reports of Epiphone acoustics with serial GG. 2005 sounds plausible to me. The factory as of yet is unknown. The only way to assure you're getting a genuine Epiphone, is to buy it at a genuine Epiphone dealer.
