Steelworker04 Posted December 17, 2010 Share Posted December 17, 2010 Years ago my mother bought me a gibson sonex at a yard sale for like 75 bucks. It very closley resembles a Les Paul without the carved top. The guitar has great pickups,action as smooth as butter, and decent tone. I researched the guitar and found is was gibsons attempt to marke an affordable guitar and it was made of a material they called resinwood which being a wood worker I likened it to MDF. The guitar was painted white and through the years had turned yellow so I decided to refinish the guitar since it was a lower end gibson guitar. Much to my suprise when the paint was completley removed I found a solid mahogany body not the so called "resinwood".
