Best strap locks?

Here goes. I use Schallers on all my guitars. They have a nice

positive locking mechanism.

Whatever brand you choose, you may have to fill the screw hole with a toothpick and glue before installing new screws. The new screws may, or may not be the same diameter as your old ones.

Very occasionally you will have to use Threadlock so they don't turn out with use.

I have often used those plastic discs that Jim Dunlop make, they fit almost all strap buttons. in fact i have them on my Epi' spotlight right now.

I have some proper schaller locking ones on my G400. they are very good and they have lasted for years and years. I originally wanted to have one strap that could just change between guitars but there was too much height differences.

I have Dunlop Strap locks on my Les Paul and SG. I went with "Marvel" from Guitar Fetish dot com for my Dot, simply because I was already ordering other items from them. I like these strap locks, though I think the Dunlop locks work just as well. If that's all you're ordering, I recommend Dunlop or Schaller from MF, GC, or one of the other places that offers free shipping.

I take my straps off when I put my guitars in their cases, much more challenging with the beer washers.

???? How so??? I find it very easy to remove the rubber grommet/washer/whatever fromthe strap buttons...at least from those on my guits...

Have used the Schallers for years, they work fine and are intuitive. I have also bought several sets of the GFS Straploks. For $9.95 a set they're not bad although a bit bulkier than the Schallers and less intiutive to unlock.

The Sadowsky came with a set of Dunlop SLS1501, but I haven't installed them and may leave it with the standard buttons on unless/until I ever gig with it.

The Grolsch solution seems very practical and it's not bad beer either....

I really like the GFS Straplocks. I like 'em better than the Dunlops. I'm not saying that they're better, I just like the way they work. I'm gonna order more of the GFS locks so they'll interchange between all my guitars.

The red washers from the caps of Grolsch beer. No mod needed, free, and a nice beer to go with them. Also sold at home brew suppliers - I got 'em for 2 for a quarter.

I use these on my Dot, 339 and Casino because the strap button is on the heel of the neck. On my solid body guit's I use Dunlop's. I've had no issues with either one.

Every one of the 8 guitars that I've purchased in the last 5 years got Schallers. Just like the solid feel they have when they click in. My son runs a beer making supply store and he sells more and more of the beer rubbers to guitar players for this purpose though, and that's what he uses. Better than leaving it to chance.

Damn, this site is extremely helpful. Thanks everyone. I can show my inexperience without feeling like a dummy and people still offer up genuine good-hearted feedback. I really appreciate it. Another question I have. The right angle plug jack seems to spin the washer where the input is on the guitar around slightly when I'm playing, leaving the washer slightly loose when I unplug the cable. Is this normal? Any easy remedies? Do they make something that helps locks the jack in place and keep the cable stable while playing?

Thanks,

Zach

Tighten it and put a little clear nail polish on it, where the nut meets the jack's threads. Also, thread your cord through your strap so it doesn't move around when you do.

no strap locks for me boys! (unless I feel like thrashing around on stage like an uneducated yahoo [flapper])

I don't thrash, but I've had a couple close calls caused by older/flimsier straps or because a strap was twisted when I stood up after being seated. That's why I like the Grolsch washer solution - cheap, no-hassle security.
