Yesterday's exclusive lesson from Arlen Roth introduced you to one of the most important and flexible chord positions for the electric guitar — the C7 chord position. In today's lesson, Roth takes it the C7 chord one step further by showing you a couple of variations of it, and some exercises, that can really help you master this essential position.

As Roth clearly demonstrates, the C7 chord exercise is one of the best for improving your left hand technique. He also shows what he calls the "pinky rule," which is going to allow you to create unique comping and walking bassline progressions that are very useful and fun to play.

This important style was first introduced by some of the greatest jazz players of our time, including Eddie Lang, Charlie Christian and Tal Farlow. And, as Roth demonstrates, the style can be easily utilized on both the electric and acoustic guitar.
