ABC (as in Australian Broadcasting Corporation) Radio National broadcast a great program on bluegrass mandolin last week featuring the builder Steve Gilchrist and Mike Compton, who plays mandolin with the Nashville Bluegrass Band and who was visiting down under for a festival.

You can hear it online for the next three weeks:

Lots of stuff about the history of the instrument, its design and construction by Lloyd Loar and the music and players - including of course, Bill Monroe.

And also check out Fred Robbins wonderful free download site. All recordings made on reel to reel. Some of these concerts are pretty unique, enjoy http://frobbi.org/picking.html
