Roller Bridge

Tell ya what my friend.

I really hope you get a better answer. Considering our membership I'm sure you will.

Until then...

Any time I have had a question for Guitarfetish I have always gotten good advice from Jay via E-mail.

Takes a day or two sometimes but, he has never failed me.

From what I've read, the Wilkinson is miles better.

Of note, though, is that as I recall, both bridges have a 14" radius, whereas Epiphone uses 12", so they won't quite be perfect. They'll work though, just your action may be a tad low on the middle strings. [thumbup]

Super,

That's the kind of stuff I'm talkin' 'bout.

Seriously, I hope someone here is using one of them and answers you.

Otherwise, I just fill in the blanks and ask Jay.

In "The case of the roller bridge" (sounds like a who dooed it mystery) I would want to know the stud spacing.

I would also , as Sjael already mentioned, want to know the string radius....and spacing.

Frankly, there is not that much difference between 12" and 14". But, there is a difference and it may mean something to you.

I also think it is minor enough that it could be corrected.

Thanks as always guys. I don't think the difference in the 12" to 14" radius would be a problem. I'll check with them and get all of the exact details to be sure about everything. I really would like to hear from someone who has one of these on their guitar, so if someone reads this that has one, please share your opinion of it.

Correct. There are a number of users here who use the bridge on their Wildkats and P93s with no problems. [thumbup] As such I imagine the stud and string spacings are fine.

I have purchased both, go for the Wilkinson. The first one you linked to had a couple of saddles that rattled. Mine may have been an exception, but the bridge only stayed on for a week and a half, until I got the Wilkinson. I have 4 Wilkinson roller bridges (one is on my Sherry and one on my Dot) on my guitars and have had NO problems with any of them. One nice thing about the Wilkinson is the room behind the saddles for the strings to clear the back of the bridge. The angle from the saddles to the bottom of the front roller on the Bigsby is pretty severe. It doesn't hit the back of the bridge which causes the guitar to go out of tune. More so of a problem with LPs than 335 styles. I really don't think that was an issue with my Sherry or Dot.

They are pretty much drop in replacements, but you need to use the studs for the Wilkinson. The bushings are the same size. You may need to play with the bridge a little bit for it to fit, but it will got down. Another added bonus is that they have set screws like TonePros bridges.

I'm thinking of getting a roller bridge for the P93 Riviera. I was looking on the Guitar Fetish site and they have this one and a Wilkinson . They're both about the same price. Is the Wilkinson better? Also, are they drop in replacements for Epi's?

I would definitely go with the Wilkinson, it's a much better bridge for that money Mike.

Have you used 'em Rob? I think I just might order me one of these things next time payday rolls around.

Unfortunately no, I didn't realise they could be had so cheaply, I definitely will in the future though, the first generic one you linked is the type I've been using and they can be had for less than half the GFS price, usually in the $10 - $12 range.

I like Wilkinson gear, always very good value for money, be it pickups or hardware.

How does the intonation work on those Wilkinson rollers Mike, does it just rely on the set screws onto the posts, or is each saddle individually adjustable also ???

Each saddle is adjustable and has a set screw to lock in place when set. The set screws on the posts lock it in place for better sustain.

Sweet, I'll get one this week to check them out, for $20 - $30 they seem to be great value.

Finally got around to ordering a Wilkinson Roller bridge (last night), should be here in about 2 weeks.

I've never had any problems with tuning stability with a Bigsby and an ABR-1 style bridge on my Gretsch. There is a school of thought that roller bridges are tone robbers and that you are better off with a TOM style bridge with properly notched saddles and some lubrication.

Cool Rob. Which axe will you be putting it on?

Not sure, either the Maestro hollow body or the 345 clone (still under construction), probably the Maestro, doesn't matter really, if it works ok I;ll more than likely replace the other roller bridges on all my Bigsby trem geets.

Not sure about the roller bridges robbing tone, I always found them superior to the ABR's they're replacing.

You members that ordered the rolling bridges, be sure to keep us updated when you instal and use them. I am most interested.

Also I did read that the Wilkinson's were 14" radius and became concerned after reading this observation by sjael

I think the radius must differ dependng on the model. For example on my 97 Casino the fretboard radius is 14" while the Les Pauls I think are 12". Not much of a difference but nice to have a bridge that will match it exactly when possible.

Great thread, please keep us all updated.

Thanks

Thought I would BUMP this to see if anyone got their tuners installed and comments. Thanks
