Well Jimmy Page often uses the DADGAD, alot of songs which are veering towards heavy metal use Drop D, which is DADGBA. Also a good one is E A E A C# E, which is used for slide guitar alot. Seven Nation Army was written in Open A, as well as In My Time of Dying by Zeppelin.

Drop D is useful for folky finger style etc.....DADGBE.....

DADGAD is nice...possibly invented by the great Davey Graham

Open G...dropped 'A' form tuning for slide a la Keith Richards

Open D...dropped 'E' form for slide etc....

DADDDD The G being the same octave as the standard D, the B and E are the octave up.

I'm currently covering a standard tuned song in an alternative tuning EBEEBE Capo on the Second Fret.
Sometimes making up your own can produce a unique and interesting sound.

My favorite tuning is G 6/9 add 13. In fact I use it exclusively!

I guess I should have used a few "emoticons" to denote the humorous nature of my post. BUT, this really is the tuning I use, if anyone wants to decipher it! :-k

Jerry Reed uses it in a few of his songs.

I use three tunings:

EADGBE, DADAAD, GGDGGD.

That may be the reason I get lost sometimes [confused]

I live and die by Eb standard! But also play "open g" which is really open f# (Db F# Db F# Bb Db) Do some open D(flat of course) and have even experimented with the good ol' 7-string-on-a-6-string tuning (Bb Ab Db F# Bb Eb)
One can never have enough Les Pauls.
