xxx
I am curious what the difference is, sonically speaking between the Burstbucker pro and the 490-498 set up found on the LP studio models?
Raptor
The 490/498 set are a bit higher output with a more modern tone to them. They are a good set of general purpose pickups. They can really drive an amp and handle metal well, or with a few tweaks of the tone control and a good amp/effects give you a decent vintage tone. The BurstBuckers (BBs) are Gibson's latest PAF clone incarnations. The BB pros are the highest output of the BB pickup line. There will definitely be vintage tone oozing from them. They should be good for classic rock, older music and hard rock, maybe some early metal too. But it is largely a matter of opinion. What is vintage tone to me may not be to you. But those are the basics that they aimed for with those pickup sets.
