Since I have a drum set on the way it was time to make room and tidy things up.

 

$15 worth of materials and a lite fun making this guitar crate. Can't paint it since it is cold but it'll be flat black.[/url]

 

Very nice. Great solution to a problem we all seem to have.

Yeah, he's MIA at I Love Fuzz as well. He has a couple of pedals listed still on Reverb, but they've been there awhile. I sent him a message on there just now.

Yeah, I check there once in a while - mostly if I need info on a particular fuzz circuit. The good news is I got a message from Dub on Reverb and he's fine. Said he's taying busy building fuzzes. He's just not been around here.

Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't posted here in a while. I have built a lot of stuff since I've last been here though! Let's see how many pics we can possibly have in one post.. I'll start with most recent stuff and work down from there

 

Cornish buffer with -9V and 18V courtesy outlets plus a momentary killswitch (enclosure is tiny 1590G which is like a mini MXR size)

 

1590A Meathead Si/Ge hybrid with ME4003 and 2N1302 this pedal sounds excellent

 

MI Audio Crunch Box clone (sounds pretty amp-like with the Cornish buffer and 18V supply!)

 

Sonic Titan with cool capacitors *o*

 

DAM Ezekiel 25:17 clone with 2 extra diode modes. I do think this is the smallest Ezekiel clone possibly ever made, it's quite a difficult fit with the rotary switch and 4 pots. Worth all the effort, it sounds amazing

My current fuzz of choice, the Lovetone Big Cheese clone. Every guitarist that has heard this pedal has asked me to sell them something haha

 

BC108 fuzz face. I've made 2 exactly the same so far. Depending on what you're going for, this is arguably better than the germanium versions.

 

DAM Grease Box (like a MKIII Tone Bender without the tone control). Very good fuzz with tons of gooey midrange. This pedal kills live

 

This is based on the DAM FZ-673, which is based on the Zonk Machine/MKI Tone Bender. Component selection is Japanese themed :D

 

Mutron Phasor II clone. What a beast

This takes your 9V adapter and gives you an 18V output

 

BJFE Emerald Green Distortion Machine clone. This emulates an ac30. Of course I have an ac30 so it's redundant but sounds great

 

Lovetone Meatball clone on the excellent musicpcb board. This is a favorite pedal of mine. So cool!

We need to talk about that Phasor II clone sometime. I had one of those and it was the best Phase pedal I ever had till it got toasted by a power surge.

I recognize that vero layout ;) Same one I use in my dirt pedals. Though I converted it to PCB. OSH Park is a godsend. Dirt cheap and immaculately fabricated PCB's.

 

Glad to see you back, and this thread revived

 

I've actually started up a little pedal company of my own. Just finished college so it's time to shift into high gear. Search for "NugeFX" if you want to get caught up ;) If not, that's cool too.

 

Let's get this thread going again boys!

It will be Copper Metallic a color Fender uses from the 1955 Chevrolet Corvette.

 

I wanted to spray the color before I came down to Mexico for a week but I had a small setback with the primer.

Thanks Pup. The Mutron sounds amazing. The thing I don't like about it is that there's a pretty noticable LFO tick that I haven't been able to get rid of. The LFO isn't properly isolated from the rest of the circuit and I'm not sure there's a way to really fix it without changing the LFO out altogether. I'd love to experiment with this circuit, keeping the same phase shift stages but swapping the LFO to a better design, but it's not a small undertaking for me. One thing is for sure, if I build another it will be on a PCB. This is just too time consuming on stripboard

Thanks Jorge! I've been really enjoying building. Now I just need to sell about 20-30 pedals to make some space haha.

I'm using DipTrace. Really easy to learn, only took me an hour or two to get the hang of it. Double sided boards with through-plated holes give a lot of flexibility. If you need some help getting started, I can offer you some guidance, or the tutorials I used when learning it.

My D.I.Y. on the right. Last night I took the open-whites out of the Elitist, and put them in the build, where they were intended to be originally. It took a while to get used to the fact that the build doesn't look like a toy for all the polyurethane (about 50mil!) that the Epiphone has, which isn't taking a thing away from it, just they went a little overboard with the poly coats, and for the build I used high-gloss Tung Oil (Formby's), and it really lends a vintage look to the guitar. Really happy with how it turned out...

I dabble. I built a tweed Champ from a mojo kit, and a tremolo pedal from a byoc kit... but my work is more functional than beautiful. I dabble in too many things, I need to focus. I aspire to someday pull something off that's almost nice as yours.

He asked about a Super Hard On with a master volume so I built it. I took out the 100K to ground on the output and added the 100K master volume pot so that when you turn the master all the way up it's exactly the same as stock

Nice! Really clean wiring. Are those the Tayda open-frame jacks? Haven't tried those...been using Switchcraft in all my builds.

Thanks! No these are Neutrik which are cheaper than Switchcraft but a little more heavy duty. Switchcraft are very good but Neutrik has thicker, harder metal. I do not like the cheaper open frame jacks that I've tried but I haven't tried the ones from Tayda. If you look back on some of the builds I did on the last page, the buffer/charge pump/killswitch, 1590A Meathead, and Ezekiel builds all have enclosed jacks from Tayda which are great but won't be quite as bulletproof as the neutrik or switchcraft

 

Neutrik makes really good enclosed jacks which are my favorite, but their open frame jacks are still the most durable imo

Nope it's one of those set-neck kits off ebay, an outfit called 'Bulldog Guitars', but everything else I did, gluing, shaping the peghead, gluing the ebony veneer on the peghead, coloring, electronics (except pickups, a gentleman in N.Y. State made those to my spec), rudimentary fret-dress (all it really needed), been on a backburner for about 3 years, and I finally got sick of looking at the Epiphone box it sat in that whole time. Been together a little more than a month, and the neck FINALLY moved 3 days ago, 1/8 loose-ee on the trussrod brought it right back...dedicated the build when I first got it to Greg (Animalfarm, no longer with us), and finally got it done, and it FAR surpassed my expectations, as it's my first...

I see. I've got a big bag of Switchcraft leftover but I'll definitely try the Neutriks next time I order. They're almost half the price of the Switchcrafts. Thanks for the heads up!
