Rabs
Rabs do you usually order the Tru Oil online or buy it in store? I can't seem to find it in store here (California has some pretty strict regulations apparently), but I can order on Amazon Always on-line on Amazon or Ebay.. its a pretty specialised product really even though loads of luthiers have taken too it the last few years.... I couldn't even get it in the gun store! It used to be available in gun stores, sporting/outdoor stores, woodworking stores, and even Walmart (which sells guns believe it or not). Apparently there was some recall in California a few years back and stores haven't really stocked it since then. California tends to have the strictest regulations on things that are deemed carcinogens and all that, which is silly because I can go buy a pack of cigarettes or any number of more toxic finishing products lol Amazon it is! Ohh.. even over here we know about Walmart and their gun policy.. Pretty crazy really. But lets not go in to that.. We don't want this thread banned ;) Of course there are also other oils to use.. Tru oil is (as far as I remember) a type of tung oil.. then theres boiled linseed oil and Danish oil.. But from what I have seen Tru oil will give you the toughest finish... Let me find that video
surfpup
I know people must think im a bit bonkers and I probably should have at least waited to finish the Korina one first and see what happens.. But I have to do these things... Its just stuff I want to try out. Mmm I think probably over half of the DIYers are like this at least SOMETIMES. ... we're just having fun, following our whims and stuff like that Exactly. This is why my work bench is covered with stuff. I find part of my brain is always thinking ahead to the next thing. Plus sometimes I get stalled on a project and find it's best to leave it sit for a while and let my mind work it out - which is a great time to start something else. Kind of like buying a new amp, guitar or pedal to help inspire you...... Its nice to know im not the only one :D

If you need a new project to stall out on I have a couple extra Mutron Biphase PCBs They are ****in INTENSE though, the thing stalling me out is that I can't find an enclosure big enough to house this thing and still fit all the jacks and switches and pots
surfpup
... I can't find an enclosure big enough to house this thing and still fit all the jacks and switches and pots I do miss my Mutron Phasor. What about a 1590 BBT - might be deep enough to work if you layer stuff?

This thing is on a way different level than that. Even the 1590D is way too small. We're talkin ridonkulous. Dub-T-123
Looking great Rabs!! Any more progress this weekend? I've been working on a few finish samples for the cabinets. The gel stain that I got was absolutely hideous. So I'm going back to the water based dye stain that I had which I'm actually kinda liking. This is a little darker than I want, I'm gonna try some water based pre stain conditioner to see if that lightens and evens the tone enough to bother with, if not I think I'm gonna just dilute the stain a bit
Rabs
No.. Havent been at it this weekend.. Tomorrow hopefully :) And that stain.. Is that green?

Dub-T-123
Cool... Im not sure if ive ever seen a green amp before? There's an amp company called Green that makes green amps which is in the Orange and Matamp family. Those have green tolex I've seen green stained amps before too so it's not the first but should look cool. I stained the cab today. The back panel is lacquered up, the cab is gonna have to wait till tomorrow, ran out of sunlight. Staining the cab went well overall. I have a couple little blotches on the side which I'm hoping to eliminate but the conditioner did its job

Dub-T-123
Here's something kinda fun. I built this little mic for my iPhone which can record a loud amp or full band without all the clipping that you get from the built in mic. Ironically I built this the day that I finally upgraded to the iPhone 7 which has no headphone jack. Anyway, my old 5C will just be a tool for capturing music ideas and maybe doing some demos now

Dub-T-123
Very cool Put a case on it and you could sell those I reckon :) Yeah I agree. No idea where to even start with making a little plastic housing though. What I think would be better would be one that uses the lightning port and has like a 6" or so wire that holds its shape so you can set the phone down and easily point the mic at the speaker or whatever. Rabs
Very cool Dub Kind of reminds me of what I go for on my builds.. Familiar but slightly different :) And talk of builds... :) Did my first ever shielding on a guitar today.. My LPs don't have shielding and neither have my other builds so far and ive never had issues with interference. Soo.. BUT for what ever reason I decided that this build wanted it and of course some experience with it is always a good thing too. So here we are :) Whats your views on shielding? Necessary? Anyway... so I have that copper tape stuff.. Pretty easy to do really, you just need some kind of tool with a rounded end like the handle of a screwdriver and run it round just making sure the tape is as flat as it will go and all secure. Nice.. then I did some buffing.. So at least that's all finished More below
Rabs
So there we are.. I did want to do the fretwork today but realised too late that my tools were at home :) doh... So that will have to wait for next time.. Possibly tomorrow, if not then Monday.. THEN I can get this build finished WOOO cant wait :D

Apparently a properly shielded guitar doesn't do that thing where it buzzes until you touch one of the grounded metal parts. Should be a really good thing supposedly
