For those with multiple guitars...

Do you play them all and is there any particular order?

Are there a couple you don't play but won't sell for whatever reason? Emotional attachment, investment, etc.

I don't play my acoustic, but I do play everything else...home use, mind you.

I tried a rotation, but that didn't work. Mondays - Custom, Tuesdays - R8, etc.

Now I just pick up whatever guitar I feel like. The problem with that is I do tend to neglect a few guitars from time to time. For example, I haven't played my Custom or ES-335 in a few weeks. I try not to neglect any, but it does happen.

For the most part, I play my R8. It's not my favorite and it's definitely not the best of the bunch, but for some reason, I find myself playing that one the most.

I try to play them all. Except for maybe the epi SG - no use but can't seem to get rid of for sentimental reasons (first real guitar).

I've got my own little system for dividing them up:

I play the acoustic and casino unplugged when I need to be quiet and for writing.

I gig/rehearse with band with the LP and Tele in regular tuning and PRS and Strat in Eb tuning. (divide up the humbucker and single coil guitars). Don't always drag every one along, of course...

The only one that doesn't get regular playing time is my electric. My acoustics are played every day. I tend to keep one in DADGAD tuning, one in Drop D and one in Standard tuning so I can bounce around between songs. Sometimes the DADGAD one also gets Open G tuning for the couple tunes I play in that.

Variety is the spice of life!

I mainly play my BFG and Highway One Strat and I play more acoustic than ever since I got my Ovation. The MIM Strat is a pretty good guitar with the mods and so is the Ibanez SZ, but they seem collect dust. I can't get rid of them because the Strat is technically my fiancees and the SZ was a gift from my parents, I'd trade them both for an American Standard Strat, Highway One Tele, Gibson Flying V or Les Paul Special if I didn't have an emotional attachment to them. I don't play my bass much, but I do like having it around.

I don't see any reason in owning a musical intrument you don't (or won't) play, so with seven guitars, one bass, and one mandolin I try to keep a rotation going but it's not always possible. Some guitars just sound better on somethings than others. It's not uncommon for me to play two or three different guityars in one sitting, depending on my mood and what I'm playing.

I would have to say my bass and 12 string acoustic get the least amount of play and my mandolin, J-45TV, and SG get the most.

My Songwriter Deluxe and SG are the only ones I take out of the house since they sound good on pretty much everything.

My Washburn KC-20V Electric guitar was bought for me by my parents in the late 80's. It's in terrible condition as a result of over 16yrs use. If I grabbed her by the neck and threw her into the road ahe would not look any worse. She has a hairline crack in the neck and the frets are very worn. I LOVE her she's a peach!!

I currently have seven guitars two of which are Gibson's and I think the Washburn BEATS them all for TONE. She NEVER goes out of tune......I got a good one!

My Slash LP Custom only gets played when the children and wife are out and My LP Goddess is out as much as my Washburn however she's NEVER left out....

Intersting question specially for people like me with e few guitars eusa_whistle.gif

I couldn't play them all regularly even if I wanted too. I play most of them in a 3-4 month rotation here and there with about a dozen that get regular play. I have probably a dozen that get little play based on either value or condition but none of them are glass case collectors some of the ones I only play at home and limited time are things like - My R9 Brockburst one piece top, a LP certified Brazilian, a LP Mardi-Gra/Katrina with a serial under 20 and signed etc . all together I have 15 or so that get about 70% of the play.

I have 5-6 that I've never even tuned let alone played like a OLP Tin Top and a BC Rich Thong and misc crap like that which are really just 3-d posters for a music room and not worth tuning.

Primary Electric Players

I play whatever I am in the mood to play. Sometimes it's the new strat, sometimes it's the bass.. or the dulcimer, etc.. It's ALWAYS the Les Paul if I am learning or developing new tunes or licks... it's just so much easier to play!

I don't have a spot where it can be left out, so the 12 string rarely gets played.

I havent played my modded epi in a year... but it has been 15 years with me and was my first electric so it has a very high sentimental value. I play mostly my Tele this days... either when I am playing by myself (the little chances I get to do that) and when gigging...

I only have 3 guitars including my acoustic, but I do play them all regularly. Lately my LP has been getting all the attention but I do try to keep a rotation going. I also find that my SG is better for certain tunes than my LP- eg. AC/DC, etc.

Sounds like you need an acoustic robot guitar!

Almost forgot...

While I rotate my guitars, I also squeeze in time for playing piano and drums. Drums not so much anymore... it's been once a month for the last little while. However I do play piano daily as I am better at it than guitar. (and yes, FYI, that means I'm awesome at piano, not that I suck at guitar, thank you very much.)

My Gibson F-25 is always out on its stand , ready to be played and even if I'm not in the mood or don't have the time to play it or my Tele or mandolin or anything else, I will pick up the Gibson to just hold it and remind myself, regardless of my religious beliefs, that there might just be a god.

I change up quite regularly.... but I tend to grab my Robot more often' date=' then my classic and then the ES 339... At times the 339 more than the classic... [/quote']

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you picked up your eds-1275? Or do you just keep it set up in that pic-of-the-year-worthy display case? On the same note, I wonder how often Neo plays his... they just don't look that practical to be honest.

Excellent question R9.

I have 10 guitars and play them all, but to varying degrees. The 2 I play the least are my mexicano Strat and my Epi G-400(w/Iommi pup in bridge). Certainly the one I play the most is the ebony LP since it's the most versatile and definitely my fave axe. But then it depends on what music I am playing and to me, switching around guitars is a blast. I have the MTM2 in Drop-B for mainly SlipKnoT, I usually keep my Viper in C# and use it alot because I LOVE the EMG actives. C# is good for Down and Sabbath, so it gets a lot of use. I keep The Dean From Hell in standard tuning and is my Pantera guitar(duh). The burst LP probably gets the second most use tied with the Tele for classic rock and 'alternative'. When I just screw around making up my own riffs, I always use the ebony LP. Sad to say, the SG doesn't get all that much use lately. I think it's time for a pickup change on that one. I use the faded LP Special mainly in open G and it also does not get all that much use. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

ive only got two: lp and my yamaha acoustic so it's entirely depending on the moment. if i just want to mess around without the hassle of setting up the lp/amp/efx then ill grab the acoustic. then the lp is def when i know i have a good chunk of free time to mess around and learn a new song or whatever. but since lately i havent had the chance to get new strings since my clean, i can't play the lp anyway for another couple days maybe lol

I play most of them, I mainly play my SG, Guild, and Martin 12 string. The only one I might consider selling is my Lucero Classical because I hardly use it. It was kind of an impulse buy because I thought I was gonna take classical lessons but I decided to take jazz/blues instead. I'd never let go of the Guild, my dad gave it to me. He bought it back in the '80s because he figured that because of the brand, he would love the guitar. It ended up sitting in a closet in his recording studio for 20 years and it was brought home a year ago. It's near mint with a pickup installed, and it's my main 6-string now that my dad carts the Yamaha back and forth to his studio. The Les Paul copy is basically untouched now that I've bought the Gibby, and the Squire Strat is in the basement closet. I'm only 16 now, I wonder how many I'll have by the time I'm 50 =P~

I self limit at 6 guitars. Currently the 1982 Gibson LP & 1988 B.C. Rich Gunslinger are my two favorites to grab. It's mood dependent, as another day it may be my Warmoth SRV Tribute Strat or First Act Lola w/HB-R/HB-L. Same w/the Yairi DY53...and I cannot wait until I have the Kramer E.E. SC3 together to play it, as the E.E. Neck is a favorite of mine and will def bump it up w/the LP & GSlinger!
